Vince Staples wants to direct a season of ‘American Horror Story’ in the hood

Young prophet Vince Staples could be getting into the show running game.

The other night, Vince tweeted that “FX should let me direct the next season of AHS I got this idea about a blackout in the projects.”

Vince already has a name for his American Horror Story remix: African American Horror Story.

Sounds like an ingenious idea. The idea of Black Americans and the horror genre has come up a lot since Jordan Peele’s Get Out captured audiences.

This led to filmmaker and professor Tananarive Due’s course at UCLA entitled “The Sunken Place: Racism, Survival, and Black Horror Aesthetic”. Peele actually pulled up to Due’s class to discuss his film with students.

Vince Staples taking control of American Horror Story could be a very cool move for a series that hasn’t shied away from depicting real life shit throughout the series.

The latest season of AHS takes place in a small Michigan town and depicts escalating tensions between Trump and Clinton supporters, the first episode takes place on election night in 2016.

The most recent episode of AHS had Lena Dunham play the infamous Valerie Solanas, the radical feminist who tried to kill Andy Warhol. This episode came as the Harvey Weinstein allegations escalated and shed light on the rampant sexual harassment and assault in the entertainment industry.

Dunham said on Instagram that AHS is doing some revolutionary stuff,

That’s definitely rad, but having Vince Staples take AHS into “the projects” sounds like a truly unique idea. Staples made a brief appearance in the 2015 movie Dope and is the face of a new Sprite advertising campaign. Dude has serious charisma.

FX has yet to respond, but this is an extremely cool opportunity for the network to take on new, real subject matter for a series that has shown that it is willing to think outside the box.
