How Ty Dolla $ign became the most versatile artist of his generation

Dolla has been on a music mission since birth. Music is in his DNA. His father was a part of funk band Lakeside. Meeting his dad’s homies like Prince and Earth, Wind & Fire at a young age definitely had a soulful influence.

So, it was only a matter of time until Ty realized that he was destined to be one of the most important voices in the hip-hop arena.

Growing up was hard and life proved difficult. Dolla came up in South Central LA and was surrounded by a gang mentality. But, he didn’t let that stop him from who he has become.

The courtroom did take his brother. TC got locked up for 67 years for something he didn’t do. This pushed Dolla in a whole different way. It has become his mission to dedicate his musical talents towards freeing his brother.

To prove it, Dolla’s debut studio album, Free TC, was created to bring light to the social injustices of mass incarceration. In an interview with XXL, Dolla said,

“I want to raise awareness to the racial and social injustices and mass incarceration that’s going on in our country right now. This is more than just an album; it’s a movement.”

Free TC truly was a movement and is a critically acclaimed a masterpiece. The album debuted at the No. 14 spot on the Billboard 200. Not too bad for an artist’s first studio album.

Ty is now proving himself a legend with his third of his Beach House series, Beach House 3. the project drops today and its finna be a banger we’ll never forget.
