Euro 2020 Stars Who Might Manufacture Mega Summer Transfers
Euro 2020 is all about national teams escaping their respective groups as they blaze a trail towards writing themselves into the history books and delivering for those sports bettors who backed them.
However, as ever with such huge international sporting events, there are plenty of subplots for online tipsters and football experts to ponder.
Are we ready for the Euro 2020?
One of these subplots is that some high-profile players will attempt to put themselves in the shop window so that the continent’s biggest clubs come calling with giant transfer fees once the tournament ends and odds lines start appearing for the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A.
While most of the largest transfer deals are usually finalized before such a tournament begins, there will be some that will need pushing over the line with a stellar performance or two at the European Championship. Here we take a look at some of the players who will be out to showcase their abilities to possible suitors.
Kylian Mbappé – Falling Out of Love with Paris
An initial trickle of speculation has become a torrent of rumors when it comes to this French superstar and a potential move away from PSG.
There is no doubt that Zinedine Zidane sees the 22-year-old as the perfect man to bring in alongside compatriot Karim Benzema at Real Madrid, while just about every other major club in Europe would also jump at the chance to have the World Cup winner in their squad.
The only sticking point to any such move could be his wage demands. However, a couple of Euro 2020 hattricks would quickly have club chairmen from the likes of Man City and Chelsea reaching for their limitless checkbooks.
Christian Eriksen – The Odd Man Out Despite Winning Serie A
Eriksen has been marked out by the Italian media almost since the first day he arrived at Inter and, even though his goals and assists played a huge part in the club wresting control of Serie A from Juventus, he still comes in for unnecessary criticism from Italian hacks and scribes.
Whatever the reason for this, it is thought that Eriksen could be convinced to move. He has the perfect platform to state his case at Euro 2020, with Group B wide open, and the Danes having a strong chance of reaching the knockout phases.
If he has his way against the likes of Belgium, Finland, and Russia, then Eriksen could manufacture a move to PSG to work with his old boss, Mauricio Pochettino.
Sergio Ramos – Brutal Contract Negotiation Drags into the Summer
Most of the men on this list are young whipper snappers, as clubs tend to buy into their futures as much as they do their present.
That is not the case with veteran center-back Sergio Ramos, who has been dragging his beloved Real Madrid through hellacious contract negotiations that show no sign of slowing.
If he can show that he is back to his belligerent best for Luis Enrique’s Spanish national team this summer, Ramos will either get that pay rise he wants, or at least a lucrative move to greener pastures.
Jadon Sancho – Premier League Calls for Sancho
It seems like everyone in football has been talking up the possibility of Sancho leaving Dortmund for years, but this summer his value might just have dipped enough for clubs to come in with serious offers.
He is by no means assured of a starting spot in Gareth Southgate’s team this summer, but this is a player who doesn’t require very much game time to show just how explosive he can be in and around the box. Expect a move to the Premier League to follow soon after the Euros are done.
Memphis Depay – Desperate to Link Up with Koeman and Co.
Reports suggest that Depay is so desperate to link up with Ronald Koeman at Barcelona that he is willing to take a pay cut.
However, with it still unclear as to whether Koeman will even be in charge at the Nou Camp next season, all of Depay’s efforts at Euro 2020 might just see him convince a different club to take him on instead.
