Nike x Louis Vuitton just announced an NYC pop up and you’re not invited

Hypebeasts everywhere are collectively shitting themselves.

hot new rumor about a Nike and Louis Vuitton collaboration is going around and from the sound of it, it’s been under wraps for a while now.

The craziest part is that it’s reportedly taking place at Niketown and you need to be invited in the first place to pull up.

The secret event is taking place October 31st between 7 and 8 pm.

You can register to get a spot here even though you’ll probably get dubbed, as there are only 150 pairs of the exclusive collab going on sale.

Not everyone is going to be able to cop so you already know the resale market is gonna be brazy for this one.

Nike has been teaming up with different fashion houses like Virgil Abloh and his Off-White collection, but this is the first official collab between the biggest sneaker brand in the world and a luxury powerhouse like Louis Vuitton.

Of course, LV had a recent collab with Supreme that showed them just how poppin’ collabs in streetwear can be, but teaming up with a company as big as Nike is going to be the flex of all flexes.

If you do happen to get an invite to the pop up, hit us up and send us flicks.

How Supreme went from an NYC skate shop to a billion dollar company

In 2017 Supreme became the first streetwear brand to be valued at $1 billion.

This news doesn’t come as too big of a surprise as the company has been pushing the boundaries about what could be done creatively and catering to one of the hottest consumer markets in the world.

But just like any other business, Supreme came from humble beginnings and founder James Jebbia has remained humble and unfazed by all of the massive success around him.

In fact, in the age where all kids seem to care about is their clout, one of the things that matters least to Jebbia is actually his legacy. In an interview with VICE i-D his nonchalant approach is probably what makes Supreme so great saying,

“We’re not thinking about image and legacy, we just want to make great stuff, season in, season out, no more, no less.”

Investing $12,000 into a skate shop in downtown Manhattan in 1994, Jebbia laid down the building blocks to later turn a clothing line into a brand, a brand into a lifestyle, and now the lifestyle has turned into something bigger than he could’ve ever imagined.

At its core, Supreme has not changed a single bit since they first opened its doors some 23 years ago. With a simple aesthetic, it was first the support of the skate community that gave the brand what it needed to start. Jebbia told VICE i-D,

“We’re not trying to be everything for everybody. We’re not trying to please the masses. We just want to grow at a reasonable pace. Supreme hasn’t changed for 20 years, and that feels very simple to me.”

But with the help of major influencers, guerilla marketing tactics, and eventually collabs with every brand you can imagine, Supreme has blasted into the stratosphere of major clothing brands.

Most importantly, the brand thrived on none other than the lifeblood of its culture: the hypebeasts. Resellers of all ages began to not only crowd their storefronts and cause pandemonium, but once they purchased their items, they’d bring them back out into the market and mark up the prices so insanely high that not even Jebbia could believe it.

In a 2002 interview, the low key Jebbia spoke on the resale market, which is something he admitted he doesn’t fuck with at all saying,

“I don’t like it very much simply because we try our best to make our clothing affordable for young people, after all Supreme is a skate brand & when I do see our things on ebay the prices are normally at least double what they should be. Basically I don¹t like people getting jacked for a T-shirt. I much prefer if someone buys something from us that they plan on wearing it & not selling.”

At this point, Supreme has created its own economy and with 11 locations worldwide from LA to Brooklyn and London to Tokyo, there’s pop up shops in even more places making sure the brand goes where it needs to be.

But what they did better than everybody else was stay true to themselves. Even with all of the countless collabs and celebs pushing their shit, Supreme never strayed away from their origins and did it for all the right reasons. Now they’re worth a billion dollars.

Supreme is a perfect example that when you put culture first, great things can happen.

Trump is now making Roger Goodell force NFL players to stand for anthem

Player protests have been the biggest story this NFL season by far.

With so many injuries, and trash ass play, the product itself is taking a dip but more eyes are on the league than ever since Colin Kaepernick started kneeling for the anthem and started the revolution.

Over the course of the past few weeks, more players have joined in but as soon as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones came through and diluted that message by kneeling before the anthem, then telling his own players they’d be benched if they take a knee weeks later, we can see what type of fuckery that is going on with ownership and the front offices.

Now new reports from ESPN claim that Trump has contacted commissioner Roger Goodell and mandated that all players be forced to stand for the National Anthem, or otherwise face consequences. Goodell sent a memo to the league saying

“Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the national anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us.”

While the message says that players “should” stand, it’s also been reported that they are working on a new policy where it will actually be required.

Players are not happy with this potential decision and free agent running back Reggie Bush had the most interesting take on it while commenting on a Baller Alert IG post.

Roger Goodell has never been popular with the players or fans and it’s for consistently not understanding things from their perspective. With so many other issues (like CONCUSSIONS) plaguing the league, he’s letting something like players not standing or linking arms during the anthem take precedent.

Of course Goodell is also being strong armed by the president and all of the owners who voted for his ass.

It will be interesting to see what the player reaction is going to be in Week 6 of the NFL season. Will players stand in fear of losing their jobs? Or will they kneel for what they know is right?

Tyrese is sounding extra sick while taking wild shots at The Rock

Let me just start off by saying that The Rock could truly body Tyrese — on the movie screen, at the bank, and with the hands.

Second of all Tyrese is a grown ass man and his behavior this past week is highly suspect. When he decided to throw up this spicy Instagram post taking shots at DJ, we could only shake our heads and ask ourselves, whose mans is this?

Not saying that Tyrese isn’t a talented actor or anything but this dude sounds EXTRA salty. Let’s examine what he said here:

“Congratulations to TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post – Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah….. it’s about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I’m just a passionate film critic.”

First off, homie spelt Dwayne wrong and second of all this is just business!

He’s clearly upset because The Rock agreed to do a spin-off movie with Jason Statham involving his character Hobbs which will push the Fast 9 release to 2020, but how you really gonna be mad at that?

https://twitter.com/karyewest/status/915983540990435328

It’s not The Rock’s fault he’s booked and in high demand. And it’s not like there hasn’t already been EIGHT FUCKING Fast and Furious movies already.

Look it is kinda crazy, but I’m sure you can find another role somewhere to make up for the delay. If not just chill at the crib with all your whips and shit.

But of course Tyrese had more to get off his chest, making it all personal and shit.

Diversity, love, multi ethnic worldwide multi generational, United Nations, One Race, Fast Family…… Until Dewayne showed up I guess this whole time he had a problem cause he wasn’t the ONLY ONE on the movie poster……….. I guess dreams do come true congratulations to @hhgarcia41 and @therock you guys are just amazing you really broke up the #FastFamily I tried to warn you guys… You thought I was hating…… I was simply fighting to keep the family together what makes us great is when you see us all TOGETHER we don’t fly solo….. #MyLastPost today….. I got 3 years of venting on this clown – They offered but YOU didn’t have to agree with a solo #HobbsMovie #OriginalFastFamily we salute you and stand on your shoulders #VinDiesel #PaulWalker #RobCohen #RomanTej were offered a spin off we TURNED IT DOWN!!!

A post shared by TYRESE (@tyrese) on

This dude is really breaking down here. One of the most important lessons in business is to never let emotions get in the way of making the bread. Do you think The Rock has time to even read these posts homie?

The best part in all of this is that The Rock has yet to respond. Dude ain’t even tryna stoop to this level and waste his time with this. He’s out here running a conglomerate and taking over the world!

At the end of the day, we wouldn’t be surprised if this was all just another marketing ploy compliments of The Rock. Dude did come from wrestling and knows the value of selling a storyline. Remember when he and Vin Diesel had that “beef”? These dudes are way too breaded to really be getting mad about some petty shit!

Then again, Tyrese could really be on some h-h-hoe shit considering that DJ still hasn’t responded. This dude just won’t stop posting shit about his feelings. The IG fingers on this one are getting out of hand.

Well, let’s see if The Rock finally decides to respond.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t body Tyrese too hard. The dude has a family and all that.

Snoop Dogg’s 8 keys on how to grind and stay successful

When it comes to longevity in the game, nobody’s really fuckin’ with Uncle Snoop.

Think about this — Snoop Dogg started working with Dr. Dre when he was only 21 and dropped Doggystyle when he was 22. But even with instant mainstream success, he was still living in the hood and remained humble.

In an interview with A$AP Rocky for Noisey he said,

“I was still in the neighborhood. I was still a part of the hood. Despite all the big shit around me, I was still the same person, so it couldn’t effect me. It never got bigger than me.”

Not only that but Snoop beat a crazy case in the beginning of his career that could’ve ended it all before it started. With a new lease on life, he made sure that he’d never put his livelihood in jeopardy again and from that moment on took over the game.

Of course over the years, Snoop diversified his portfolio and became a one-man conglomerate, but it was his beliefs and lessons he learned from the transition from the streets to the industry that made him so wildly successful.

From his Doggy Fizzle Televizzle days to his successful YouTube channel WestFestTV, he has his hand on the pulse of the next generation. Not to mention his youth football league and thousands of other things he’s doing from music to cannabis, Snoop Dogg is one of the busiest men in the game.

So what makes him continue to grind like he’s still broke? In an old ass interview with Young Hollywood he explained he can’t let up saying,

“If I stop believing I can be right back there again so I gotta continue to push and work hard. Through my relationships in life with different people, I’ve picked up different work ethic and beliefs about how I should do things and I just do it the only way I know how.”

The Snoop brand is ridiculously brolic these days and will carry on a legacy of its own for decades to come. That’s because he has the same drive as when he started.

The mentality may have changed and now he’s a grown ass man, but the pressure he learned to work with from being in the streets is something that stuck with him forever.

How two friends are bringing the underground techno scene back to NYC

In the world of NYC underground music culture, subgenres like deep house, techno, and progressive house are often hard to pinpoint.

With events catering to this audience so few and far between, two lifelong friends came together to forge something the community has needed for years now.

ORIGINS underground is the bold new endeavor that DJs Bryan Fein and Dylan Farrugia (who go by Mafia B and DySco respectively) have set out to create and it all started with an idea to curate the community that they’ve been a part of for the past decade.

Bryan explained that the vision behind this project was simple,

“I wanted a platform for artists and fans alike, to show their love to the underground scene. The community is forever giving and there’s nothing more satisfying than giving back.”

The underground party concept came when Dylan was exposed to the scene in Europe as a young teen and it became an experience that stuck with him forever.

“I was just 14 years old anxiously walking into my first nightclub wondering if I’d get in – in Europe of course – and it was there that I experienced a lifestyle like no other. I was now surrounded by people who were all there for the same thing; good electronic music.”

In order to find more like-minded individuals who share their common interest and drive when it comes to underground music, Fein and Farrugia decided to make it happen on their own. With ORIGINS underground’s first launch event set for October 5th at The Notorious in NYC, the show is ready to hit the streets.

Interacting for years with many others who consume and create for this lifestyle was enough for them to realize that there is a void in the event market that they could fill.

But more importantly the duo wants to create an everlasting product that can be enjoyed by enthusiasts around the world in the coming years.

“We felt it was time to contribute more to this scene as the difficulty of finding parties that play this particular style of music is quite high. Our goal is to eventually expand worldwide and build a family of artists and fans who share the same taste in music. We share the same vision, drive and style in music, so it was almost inevitable that this day would come.”

Now with ORIGINS underground taking the forefront in NYC, they want everyone who loves the same music they do to come and be a part of the culture.

At the end of the day their mission is simply “Maintaining an honest relationship with our artists and audience is what our brand embodies. After all, that’s the backbone to a party with vibes that make it worthwhile.”

The party will be held on Thursday, October 5th at The Notorious, an intimate cocktail venue on 9th ave between 13th St & Little W 12th St.

8 brazy NBA 2K mods that take the game to a whole other level

NBA 2K18 is out and to be honest it’s the same damn game.

Major props to 2K Sports though for innovating with features like the 2KTV, classic teams and this year’s Run The Neighborhood mode but realistically if you want a new user experience, you may need to spice it up by using some slight hacking.

NBA 2K mods are an insane way to get shit poppin’ and pretty much anything is possible when it comes to putting your favorite NBA players in compromising positions.

Just look what Bleacher Report did with #HoodieMelo. Shit is genius and who wouldn’t want to play the same damn game they’ve been playing with a little tweak like this?

Hoodie Melo is coming. 👀 (via @bleacherreport, cc: @cbrickley603)

Over the years, we’ve seen epic mods and collabs that make the game exactly what it should be — a video game. People getting too caught up with the realism and it being a simulation forgot what video games are supposed to be.

Who doesn’t wanna play in some David vs. Goliath situation where Steph Curry is 1-foot tall or use Space Jam characters? Realistically I’m tryna play with Obama so someone holla at me with that.

I have no idea how these gamers are able to do mods like these but maybe 2K should hire some of them! It doesn’t really hurt the actual gameplay and this way we can play with the entire Ball family NOW.

At the end of the day, if you’re smoking a gram Backwood to the face and playing 2K tonight just like half of America (shouts out to you), then figure out how to get some mods poppin’ and take your game to the next level.

Why Kendrick Lamar, just like Tupac, is the voice of his generation

24, Tupac was shot and killed in Las Vegas after watching a Mike Tyson fight. The murderer still remains unknown to this day.

But at 25-years-old, Pac already accomplished more than most people can say they have in a lifetime. He had the hits, the movies, the marketing appeal, and one of the brightest futures in the game. But above all that, he was the voice of his generation.

No one kept it more real than Tupac when it came to talking about issues in society and what it really is like to be a black man in America. Every time he spoke you could feel what he was saying and see what he was seeing.

It would’ve been cool to see both Pac and Biggie continue to evolve as artists and actually collab with some of the artists today. Still, their presence is felt even two decades after dying.

While these young ass rappers today like Lil Yachty might not know the legends, there are still other students of the game who know the history of hip-hop and where the genre came from.

One of those emcees is of course Kendrick Lamar but he’s done more than just mastering his craft — he became the voice of his generation, just like Tupac.

Lyrically, they’re pretty different as Tupac spoke from that gangbanging perspective while Kendrick is more on the reporting from the streets/greatest rapper alive type shit.

As a child, Kung Fu Kenny actually witnessed Tupac filming a music video and that was the very moment he knew he wanted to do. For him to be in the position he is today is just a full circle thing.

Just like Tupac, Kendrick is using his talent and fame as a platform to raise awareness about what’s going in the hood. He’s picking his people up and taking it right where Pac left off. Peep the video above to see how Tupac’s influence helped Kendrick Lamar.

The best life lessons Uncle Phil blessed us with on ‘Fresh Prince’

This past weekend marked the 27th anniversary of the moment that Fresh Prince of Bel Air first debuted and changed network television forever.

And when you really think about it, has there really ever been a better show?

Not only was a star born in Will Smith but Carlton’s dance moves became a pop culture phenomenon, we got to see what bad and boujee really meant thanks to Hilary, and of course the most valuable life lessons were delivered by none other than James “Uncle Phil” Avery.

His tragic passing near two year eves ago is still one of the saddest losses in TV history as his character on the show was truly larger than life. His voice of discipline and wisdom is something that remains relevant every time you see a re-run of the show.

With Will wildin’ out every damn episode, Uncle Phil was that presence that kept him grounded and while he was driven crazy by his damn nephew, Phil showed America what real love looks like.

Just recently Will Smith went bungee jumping and released this upside down selfie that had everyone trippin’ once they saw how much he looked just like his late TV uncle. Nah seriously this is kinda crazy!

Now who wouldn’t want to see a Fresh Prince reboot where Uncle Will is the one dishing out all the knowledge on some youngin’ wildin’? Maybe Jaden???

At the end of the day no one will be able to replace Uncle Phil, not even Will, as his deep voice and refined knowledge from growing up on the streets and becoming a lawyer would just be unmatched by anyone.

You almost felt like this character he was playing was real life and he cared about his family that much. Uncle Phil was an amazing character but James Avery brought him to life on every show. He was everyone’s uncle, realistically.

RIP Uncle Phil.

New interactive series Recipe Remix combines music, technology, and cooking

There’s always been a natural connection between music and cooking. As the work in the kitchen goes on, a background soundtrack just sets the right mood.

But it can be tough to transition between making your recipes and DJing. The cook might not have the time to perform all duties in the kitchen while also keeping track of the setlist.

A new collaborative series from Nue Agency and betaworks combines music and cooking seamlessly to take the stress off both efforts and help you make amazing new recipes while also getting some new tracks to listen to.

Nue Agency and betaworks’ new series Recipe Remix pairs musical artists and food brands (available on Amazon Echo and coming soon to Google Home), for a handsfree cooking and musical experience.

The debut episode of Recipe Remix sees trumpeter Spencer Ludwig preparing his favorite Ritz cracker and meatloaf recipe while also listening to his rendition of New Kids on the Block’s “You Got It (The Right Stuff).”

Ludwig whips up his recipe while jamming out to his own music in a fun environment that combines some of our favorite things in the world, music and food.

The trumpeter spoke about the experience,

“The music distribution and digital media landscape is constantly evolving, putting more responsibility on artists to understand and uncover new ways to form meaningful connections with their fans. The smart speaker is a new and potentially powerful medium that brings the artist into connection with audiences in their kitchens, just as a guest or a family friend might join over dinner.”

Recipe Remix really does bring the artist into the home, but it also offers a more intimate experience with food brands. In this case, RITZ crackers has teamed up with Nue Agency, betaworks, and Ludwig.

Lauren Sella, director of RITZ equity for North America, explained the partnership,

“Since 1934, RITZ has celebrated the richness in coming together. And this year, because we know that good food and good music go hand in hand, we wanted to connect the two in a way that has never been done before. Recipe Remix and Spencer Ludwig were the perfect partners for us in this, and we’re thrilled to be working together to bring this first episode of Recipe Remix to life.”

Brands are always looking for new and interesting ways to collaborate and bring their product to life. Recipe Remix is a fascinating new approach to brand-seeding.

As we see this coming together of food and music, one aspect of the partnership that sort of lingers in the background, but is integral to the entire series, is the technology itself.

Recipe Remix is made for Amazon Echo and Google Home. James Cooper, Head of Creative at betaworks, talked about how these technologies provide new opportunities for brand integration,

“With the advent of the Amazon Echo and Google Home we’re rethinking the relationship between music and the home. People want to listen to music while doing other tasks, like cooking. We thought we could find an interesting way to use this new technology to enhance cooking. So you control the recipe and playlist with your voice. It’s new but once you get the hang of it, it’s great. Like Spencer says in this episode, ‘You’re talking to your kitchen. Don’t worry, it’s totally cool.’”

It’s no surprise to see betaworks involved with something like Recipe Remix. The New York-based startup platform has created products like GIPHY, Tweetdeck, and bitly, all of which seamlessly provide everyday technologies to the consumer.

Betaworks working alongside Nue Agency is a partnership made in collaboration heaven. Nue Agency brands itself as a “Creative Music Agency for the New Era,” always searching for innovative ways to give music listeners new experiences in a constantly evolving industry.

Jesse Kirshbaum, CEO, Nue Agency, spoke about being the catalyst for bringing these brands together on Recipe Remix,

“We look forward to creating more episodes as a vehicle for brands like RITZ and artists like Spencer to connect with newer, tech-savvy audiences. Cooking a meal together is a memorable experience for fans and it creates a deeper connection than even social media. This is only the beginning and we’re looking forward to seeing how the show evolves as more people engage with voice-activated products and content.”

As technology continues to change the face of the home, we’ll surely continue to see inventive and interactive ideas like Recipe Remix pop up.

Check out the preview of episode 1 with Spencer Ludwig here.
