Tyler, the Creator freaking out about his song on the radio proves it still means something

Tyler, the Creator has had a monumental 2017. His fourth studio album debuted #2 on the Billboard 200 chart and he’ll start his Flower Boy tour this month.

He has a new how-to series on VICELAND and an animated show coming to Adult Swim later this year. This year will also mark his sixth annual Camp Flog Knaw Carnival, featuring acts like Migos, Kid CuDi, A$AP Rocky, and more.

Tyler is doing amazing for himself and will only keep finessing life as he gets older. The 26-year-old creative has the platform to do whatever he wants whenever he wants.

His album sold 106,000 copies its first week despite leaking an entire week prior to its release.

His career is more than cemented at this point, so when I see Tyler gushing over his single “See You Again” getting play on the radio I don’t know what to think.

Tmw Tyler hears #SeeYouAgain on the radio for the first time 🙌

A post shared by HotNewHipHop (@hotnewhiphop) on

I mean Tyler is one of those artists with an extremely loyal fanbase. His album sales prove that fact as well as all his sold out shows. So, why does radio matter?

The radio is notoriously late to what’s popping on the internet and usually doesn’t break new records anymore. Hearing a song on the radio means it’s already been popular and is just being given extra life.

Tyler, the Creator has never been an artist who needs radio, which brings me to my question: Do artists need their music on the radio in 2017?

Recently we’ve seen 50 Cent argue with Hot 97’s creative director about the death of NY radio. A specific sound, as well as a specific rotation of artists, dominate hip-hop radio.

To be put in rotation at a station, artists need to meet a certain sound with a certain formula. More often than not the radio isn’t putting you on to dope artists, it’s letting you know what’s already hot in the streets.

In the era of streaming and playlists, the times of being at the radio’s mercy is over. Due to the internet we see more artists with a platform to get their music to the public without ever touching radio.

So why are artists still chasing a radio hit in 2017? Why is Chris Brown still the go-to singer for when you want your song to do numbers?

Personally I can’t tell you what’s being played on the radio. I haven’t listened to Hot 97 in years but I can still recognize what a radio hit sounds like. For artists who haven’t yet grown a strong fanbase, radio is a sure way of getting exposure.

Striving for a radio hit means you want to grow. Cardi B’s recent single “Bodak Yellow” would not have done nearly as well without being in constant rotation on the radio.

Artists creating for the radio have an agenda. To have that undeniable hit is to hear that record everywhere you go. For them the focus is the impact and the accomplishment of that possible Billboard spot.

Artists like Tyler, the Creator has never had a traditional radio song. Since coming out in 2010 he’s had a core following that has grown with him. All that considered Tyler still expresses how he’s always wanted a song of his on the radio.

Having a song on the radio represents the artist’s evolution. It’s a sign that your music is being widely accepted and most people (aside from fans) are fucking with it. Tyler, the Creator has no need for any songs to be played on any station but it’s still a nice surprise when it does happen.

In 2017 artists are equipped to handle everything revolving around their music personally. With streaming services and internet marketing, radio realistically isn’t necessary. So, do artists need their music on the radio in 2017?

Definitely not, but doing so is still a huge accomplishment and can provide any needed help to propel the record beyond it’s initial impact.

Amber Rose really had 21 Savage out here with a ‘I’m A Hoe’ sign

Yesterday Amber Rose held her third annual Los Angeles Slut Walk.

If you’re unaware, Amber Rose’s Slut Walk serves to take the derogatory power out of words like hoe, slut, and thot. The walk is an attempt to empower women and promote  sex positivity.

It’s no secret that woman are treated differently than men regarding their sexual exploits and Amber Rose aims to eliminate that trend in search of equality.

Wearing her “Captain Save-A Hoe” superhero outfit, Amber Rose led the charge swinging around her ‘Captain Save-A Hoe poster.’

Rocking a pink cape in her white leotard Amber walked around looking spectacular. Other women supporters showed out to the walk including Blac Chyna and Just Brittany to support the cause.

Amongst the other celebrities that joined in on the walk, everyone’s eye was on 21 Savage. The platinum-selling rapper stood right next to Amber showing his support for her Slut Walk movement.

During the walk 21 carried a poster of his own reading “I’m a hoe too.”

Amber and 21 seemed like weird couple at first, but they’re really out here for each other.

Of course the internet had jokes…

https://twitter.com/RealLifeKaz/status/914594859419389958

And more jokes.

Some people are trying to clown 21 for supporting his girlfriend. I know damn well you guys making fun of the savage for being soft for Amber would do the exact same in his position. At the Slut Walk, 21 was doing exactly what he should: supporting his girl.

21 doesn’t have the friendliest reputation but for the love of his life there’s obviously an exception. Amber’s annual event ended a huge success bringing out a large number of attendees.

With 21 joining the slut movement the possibility of bringing a new male audience to the walk is a real one. While the internet continues to make its jokes about 21 and Amber they’ll continue to live unbothered and lit lives.

21 Savage supports his woman in anything she does.

24 years ago today, Cypress Hill smoked weed on SNL and got banned for life

In 1993 the California hip-hop group Cypress Hill had 2 platinum albums under their belt. The group had insane hits with “Insane in the Brain” and “Hits From the Bong” circling around the country.

During that time the group was pioneering weed culture. They definitely weren’t the only ones smoking but they were the rappers making the most movements with the most dope.

On October 22nd, 1993 the group got a chance to play the Saturday Night Live stage. Playing singles from their triple platinum album Black Sunday they performed “Insane in the Brain” and “I Ain’t Going Out.”

As the group returned to the stage to play “I Ain’t Going Out” group member DJ Muggs lit a spliff on stage.

First addressing the crowd, DJ Muggs yelled out “Yo, New York City, they said I couldn’t light my joint, you know what I’m saying? Well, we ain’t going out like that!” The rest was history.

https://youtu.be/TdTChS-Ct88?t=12s

Smoking weed on-stage and ending their performance knocking over bongos, Cypress Hill clearly pissed SNL off. So much so that the group received a lifetime ban from the show.

The group became the first rap act to receive the infamous ban from the long running show. They were placed amongst other stars such as Martin Lawrence, Sinead O’Connor, and Steven Seagal who will never be seen on SNL again.

The world has come a long way with acceptance of weed. Just a couple months ago the Migos were on Jimmy Kimmel smoking the loudest of the loud.

Again they were at Ellen’s show smelling like the strongest of cookie. I’m sure this event today wouldn’t get any platinum-selling artists banned from a show.

DJ Muggs says he lit his joint because SNL specifically told him not to. Hip-hop’s defiance at its finest.

Fuck SNL anyways, Cypress Hill got to do their show and make a legendary moment on live TV.

Week 4 NFL roundup: More protests, Marshawn’s message, and brazy plays

It’s Week 4 of the NFL and everyone’s focus is still on the national anthem protests.

Compared to last week, the protests weren’t as prevalent. Most teams instead decided to stand in solidarity with linked arms rather than sit out the anthem.

About 30 San Francisco 49ers sat out the anthem while the rest of their team stood behind them – hands to their shoulders. The team had not played since September 21, which was before Trump’s “son of a bitch” speech in Alabama.

In a statement released on Twitter the team said:

The strongest act of protest came from Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch. Before his game with the Denver Broncos Marshawn was rocking an “Everybody Vs. Trump” shirt.

Aside from the protests the games this week were exciting.

50 Cent’s most savage moments prove he’ll cut ass on anybody

50 Cent has sold controversy his whole career. His first big single before Get Rich or Die Tryin’  was the song “How To Rob.”

In that song, 50 spends 4 minutes explaining in detail how he’d go about robbing each rapper in the industry. Since then, 50 has given no fucks when talking about anything, if it exists he has an opinion.

Yesterday was the 8th anniversary of 50’s classic troll of Fat Joe.

In the video posted to ThisIs50.com the Queens rapper claimed Joe’s music was so bad it gave him “noise poisoning.”

The troll shows 50 crying and hugging his son while whining “it hurt me” and “I don’t care about the money… it sucks.” No matter how you feel about 50, that video is hilarious and is the epitome of 50’s trolling.

Fat Joe wasn’t the first and damn sure wasn’t the last guy 50 cent violated freely. Throughout the years 50 hasn’t missed a step when coming for people’s necks.

In honor of this legendary troll here’s 5 more people who 50 cent has had a blast cutting ass on.

Rick Ross

Bro. Do y’all remember this shit?

For those who don’t know, 50 Cent lost his home to a fire in 2009 and Rick Ross poked fun at the situation on a track. After that it was on between the two rappers but 50 came DIRTY.

This was around the time his website ThisIs50.com was popping due to all his comedy skits. 50 responded by dropping two videos featuring Rick Ross’ baby mother and his kids.

In the videos the baby mother exposes Ross as a former correctional officer while 50 hugs and kisses all over his kids.

God forgive me for laughing but this is one of the most savage ways to handle a beef ever. This shit was evil and I love it so fucking much.

Diddy

https://www.instagram.com/p/BZkBnIEFEpr/?taken-by=50cent

50 has been coming at Diddy for years now. At this point I don’t think it’s actual beef but that doesn’t make it any less funny.

I swear if 50 didn’t rap he would’ve got his breakout doing comedy. 50 has always made a point to come at the person on top and Puffy’s been the guy on top for years now.

Whatever their relationship is I hope 50’s jokes never end.

Ja Rule

You know, it’s really sad what happened to Ja Rule. In 2017 his name is laughable musically, but he was huge before 50 came in the game.

When 50 Cent took over the rap game his mission was to kick everyone he didn’t like to the curb. Ja Rule just got the worst hand in that shit.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoTl8GTgZJk

“The check say Golden Boy, that mean you work for Oscar bitch?!” This feud was mad fun because these two are brothers.

No one can talk about Floyd the way 50 did and he definitely talked about that man. Fif challenging the undefeated boxer to read Harry Potter was funny as hell.

After lessening the challenge to a page of Cat in the Hat, Floyd responded challenging 50 to take a picture with all his kids. Why is everything 50 involved in so savage?

Irv Gotti

https://www.instagram.com/p/BYCa_DMnAgV/

50 still doesn’t like the Co-founder of Murder Inc. The two hip-hop stars have had problems since the destruction of Murder Inc. (courtesy of 50).

As always, 50 hasn’t let off his neck and takes every chance he can to throw a quick jab at him.

Recently in his interview with The Breakfast Club, when asked about Irv’s competing show on BET, 50 immediately made it clear that he was going to have that show taken off ASAP.

Gucci Mane continues legendary comeback by dropping a new clothing line

There’s never been a better comeback story than Gucci Mane’s. He was pretty successful before going to jail but he’s been another level since he got out.

Since being released from jail back in 2016 Gucci has managed to finesse every bag presented to him. He’s released 8 projects, an autobiography, a #1 song with Rae Sremmurd, defeated addiction, and is now unveiling his new streetwear brand.

Get ready @delantic launching Friday @lilwop17_

A post shared by Gucci Mane (@laflare1017) on

Delantic, named after Gucci’s middle name, is releasing its first run of shirts in a series titled ‘Fan-Fiction.’ The shirts feature designs from Gucci wearing his ankle bracelet in some Jays to the East Atlanta Santa draped in a white fur coat.

The brand is a collaboration between Todd Moscowitz (Co-Founder of 300 Ent), retail executive Austin Rosen, and Hot 97’s Miss Info. While these other rappers sleep, Guwop be working! The collection features four t-shirts designed by Peter and Patty Chung, who formerly worked with Nike, Supreme, and Stüssy.

Delantic’s look-book is full of pictures from the Day and Night and Meadows Festivals. The models are all young artists who Gucci Mane fucks with like Lil Wop and Lil Xan. Even Catch Me Outside girl is in the collection… I hope a Gucci ft. Bhad Bhabie doesn’t happen soon.

Since announcing the brand last year, Gucci’s been quiet on the details of his streetwear venture. Now with the release of the line’s first few pieces we can see the direction he’s going. This “Fan-Fiction” series is a creative start to a brand and we hope to see another run of new designs.

The Sprewell ‘Dada’ kicks with spinners on them are coming back

NBA stars have been the flashiest athletes for a long time now. Russell Westbrook’s wild outfits are just the latest evolution of what basketball players have been doing for a while.

In 2001, NBA All Star Latrell Sprewell unveiled his signature shoe with Dada. The Dada Supreme Spinners featured actual spinning rims on its side in the most early 2000s thing of all-time.

Everyone has seen these sneakers. Honestly they’re goofy as hell, but how gangsta is it to just have spinners on your sneakers.

Sprewell brought mad attention to himself in the early 2000s while balling out in his spinners. The aesthetic itself fits in today’s hip-hop culture so well.

With the throwback 90s theme artists have been fucking with recently, these kicks could definitely make a comeback. Sprewell’s recent Twitter announcement showed that resurgence might be a reality.

Yesterday the former Knick posted an old picture of his spinners with the caption “These might make a return soon.”

https://twitter.com/_Spree15/status/913608365833678848

After an hour of receiving support from fans on Twitter, Latrell came back and told everyone the sneaker was dropping sometime in 2018.

https://twitter.com/_Spree15/status/913617009241411584

So I guess they’re scheduled to drop soon? I don’t know the legitimacy of Sprewell’s tweets but if it is true then we’ll all have spinners on our feet next year.

Even Kevin Garnett showed support to the retired All Star.

Along with receiving countless support tweets, Twitter had to throw some jokes at him.

Memes are a business now, might as well embrace them.

To be honest the sneakers can be type fly if worn right. Nostalgia always sells and who wouldn’t want to rock spinner on their kicks?

These two kids on Twitter already modeled a pair proving how we can properly bring the early 2000s into 2018.

Hopefully Sprewell does have more details about the release date. Until then let’s just look at old colorways and get our fits ready.

Deshaun Watson gives his first NFL game check to Texans’ cafeteria ladies

Rookie quarterback for the Houston Texans Deshaun Watson is one of the most stand up guys in the NFL. The 22-year-old’s coach compared him to Michael Jordan due to his outstanding talent and maturity.

His demeanor proves that he is a great choice for the face of a franchise. In a close game with the mighty Patriots last Sunday, Watson managed some impressive passes ultimately losing by 3 points.

Watson’s unique abilities go far beyond than the field though, proving time and time again that he’s just a great guy. Back in April, the young star copped his Mom a 2017 Jaguar for her birthday.

https://twitter.com/deshaunwatson/status/858432730551521281

Seeing a young athlete celebrate their parent like that warms my heart. His knack for thoughtfulness doesn’t end with his family though.

After the devastating Hurricane in Houston a couple weeks ago, a few members of the Texans staff were left without homes.

While efforts to rebuild the city continue, Deshaun decided to take matters into his own hands. Earlier this week after receiving his first game check Watson split his earnings up three ways.

Each split would go to one of three employees who work in the team’s cafeteria. The three ladies recently lost everything to Hurricane Harvey and with Deshaun’s help can hopefully get back on their feet.

Chill, let me not get emotional.

With this act of kindness, Deshaun showed that he truly has the best interests in mind for everyone around him.

Before becoming an NFL player helping others, Watson experienced his own act of kindness when he was 11 years old. In 2006, former NFL RB Warrick Dunn helped give Watson and his family a new home.

Living with his single mother and 3 siblings at the time, looking back on the moment Watson recalled,

“I felt grown having my own room, just having my own bed, not really being squished, not really worrying about someone sneaking up on me, it was a great moment, a special moment.”

Watson’s good heart runs deep, especially knowing his upbringing. While the NFL season has started with some controversy, the quarterback spins right around it.

In this crazy world I still believe good people exist and Deshaun Watson keeps my hope alive.

Louis Vuitton is selling custom belts online like Nike ID or some shit

Earlier this week Louis Vuitton was recognized as the best fashion brand in the world.

Ranking as the 19th biggest company, behind juggernauts like Google and Apple, Louis Vuitton’s financial and cultural significance put it above other fashion brands like Gucci and Burberry.

Coming off their recent Supreme collab, the LV brand is doing big things. In an unusual turn of events, LV has announced a new option for one of their most popular items.

As part of their “Make It Yours” campaign, the French company has released customizable LV belts. Traditionally restricted styles to individual belts are no more.

Their new “My LV Belt” service allows clients to mix and match different designs for the perfect belt. 14 leather strap options and 12 new buckle styles as well as exotic skin options make the possibilities endless.

With rappers making the LV belt popular, this new iteration is bound to blow up. Everyone in the hood wants a Louis Vuitton belt even if it’s like half your rent. With this announcement get ready to see some creative ass belts outside.

In the promo video for the belts you can see a bunch of different options for the design. This isn’t the only item for the brand’s “Make It Yours” campaign, also giving the option for custom watches.

Though still in the same vein as the belt the watch, has a bit less customizable options. This service allows for different straps but is restricted to the Tambour watch model.

Louis Vuitton isn’t the best fashion brand in the world for no reason.

With this new addition to their popular line of accessories the company is bound to see excitement surrounding its release.

Although it’s expensive as shit LV is also fly as shit and who am I to ever tell someone they shouldn’t strive to be as fresh and unique as possible.

Here’s why Diddy is always at the top of the Forbes list every damn year

2017 marks another year where Diddy grabs the #1 spot on Forbes list of highest-paid hip-hop artists. Beating last year’s earnings of $62 million, Diddy shitted all over himself reportedly earning $130 million in 2017.

The gap in earnings between his #1 spot and Drake’s #2 spot is ridiculous. The Toronto rapper racked in an impressive $94 million which is still $36 million behind the Bad Boy founder.

Obviously Diddy is making fucking bread. Remember that “fuck you” money Dave Chappelle said Jay-Z had? Well compared to Hov, Diddy has “fuck you, you, and YOU” money.

https://twitter.com/imkaydot/status/913106528806346752

With the mogul topping the list every year, the same question always comes up. Where the hell does he make all his bread?

He hasn’t spit a verse in years and he’s barely seen in the public so where’s all this money coming from? That’s where I come in.

I’m here to pocket watch Puffy and break down just how he continues to finesse the highest checks every year.

Ciroc Vodka

https://giphy.com/gifs/vodka-diced-pineapples-ciroc-vm2inIxC7rizC

In 2007, Ciroc’s parent company Diageo decided to partner with Diddy and make him the face of their premium vodka. The brand agreed to split all profits with him and an entitlement to proceeds if the company was ever sold.

The rest is pretty much history as the liquor is now a staple in every hip-hop club, lyric, and video. In 2007, the vodka company was moving 120 thousand cases a year, in 2009 they moved 400 thousand cases.

Diddy don’t play around when he’s marketing something, I know everyone remembers the Ciroc Boys. Respect this man’s hustle!

Bad Boy Reunion Tour

https://giphy.com/gifs/lil-kim-queen-bee-bad-boy-M3nDoiwVJTJyo

You can sell the same product your whole life as long as you package it right.

Diddy proved this to be true in 2016 when he took his former Bad Boy family on a reunion tour. The tour went across America to Canada selling out most of their venues. The first stop alone raked in over $4 million in revenue.

Multiply that for 26 more shows across the continent and you can see how Diddy managed to make some serious bread off of 20-year-old records.

Sean John

Hip Hop Dancing GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Diddy’s 18-year-old brand sells around $450 million annually. In July of 2016 Diddy sold the brand for $70 million while keeping a 20% share.

Selling majority stake to Global Brands Group, his goal is to see the brand reach a worldwide audience. With a larger organization behind it, Sean John is bound to grow and continue making Puff a lot of money.

It may not be the most popular clothing anymore but if there’s anyone who knows how to turn shit around, it’s Diddy.

Blue Flame Marketing Agency

P Diddy GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Founded by Sean “Diddy” Combs, Blue Flame is a marketing agency designed to push your brand to the next level.

The brand has been reported to earn $12 million in billing a year and is only projected to grow. The company holds clients like Discover, Reebok, and even YahooIf this doesn’t tell you that Diddy has his hand in everything I don’t know what will.

Diddy is a true entrepreneur in every sense of the word. He’s making bread from every direction he can and I’m sure there are a lot more sources of earnings we aren’t aware of. From marketing companies to water endorsements the man is racking it up.

So shout out to Diddy for hitting #1 again on the Forbes richest in hip-hop list, hopefully our man cracks that billion mark by next year.
