Are we ready for ‘Leaving Neverland,’ the bone chilling HBO doc about MJ?

Michael Jackson will forever go down in history as the King of Pop, a moonwalker, and an alleged child molester. Yeah, the man was hella off, aight. Still, he changed the world and gave hope to millions, maybe, billions of people.

Some might even say that Jackson’s obsession with his craft was absurd. Spike Lee once said, “his work ethic was legendary.” Another great, Wesley Snipes, said working with Jackson was an “unbelievable” experience. Plus mostly everyone in the music business when asked, ‘Who do you want to work with?’ They answer, MJ.

The man worked countless hours to make sure everything related to music was done properly and for him, there was no time for a flaw, except for in his personal life.

Michael Jackson Laughing GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Who knows when he might have gone off the deep end, for real. It could’ve been years ago when Joe was beating the shit out of him backstage before a Jackson 5 performance.

Perhaps it was when he almost burned his head off during a Pepsi commercial or when the world began to notice his chameleon-like change of skin tone.

Maybe it was the press that dragged his name constantly through the mud, even after MJ was found not guilty on all charges for his child molestation accusations.

Yes, inviting children to play with you at your theme park called Never Land is suspect AF, especially when you are a grown man. Regardless, we know things looked bad and it seemed as if the charges were going to stick, but they didn’t.

But MJ has always been a weirdo. Even Quincy Jones noticed it when he and MJ first met. The Guardian asked Jones, ‘Did you ever have to take Michael to one side and tell him he was being too weird?’ Jones replied, “Only when we first met, when he was 12.”

Could you have survived in MJ’s shoes where everything you say, touch, and do can become a liability? We bet you couldn’t handle it. All the money in the world couldn’t combat the stress and sacrifice the King of Pop had to deal with.

Was it stress that led to MJ’s untimely death? Who knows? Probably. Anyone who has a doctor on deck at all times to feed them painkillers and anesthetics is trying to numb something.

We have to wonder, would he have been able to still lead the life he was, if he didn’t OD? We can take a look at the cases of R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, or Kevin Spacey, and think, ‘yes, but behind bars.’

Either way, MJ would constantly have to revisit the darkest hours of his life, whether it be through an insensitive meme, a vulgar tabloid title, or maybe a new documentary that has spun his fantasy world into a nightmare.

Leaving Neverland which has just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival is said to have done just that. According to reviews, the new two-part documentary, which is set to hit HBO later this year, is a bone-chilling watch and contains interviews with those who were “touched” by the white glove wearing performer.

James Safechuck makes an appearance in the doc. Back in 2014, Safechuck claimed that MJ molested him over 100 times over the course of four years. Safechuck, now 36, met MJ when he was 10. Both were on set for a Pepsi commercial. During the doc, he goes in and explains all of the disturbing things MJ made him do.

Safechuck explained that MJ would put on fake marriages, the two would engage in sexual acts at Jackson’s Neverland compound, and the pop singer would hold drills in which he would train 10-year-old Safechuck to put his clothes on quickly in case any witnesses should appear. The former child actor also added that MJ would say,

“If anyone ever found out that we were doing these sexual things, we would go to jail for the rest of our lives.”

Other victims are interviewed as well, including Wade Robson who was molested by the pop singer when he was seven. Both Robson and Safechuck testified under oath that they weren’t victimized by the moonwalker and said that at the time they lied on the stand because of direct pressure from MJ.

Interviews from the parents which are included in the doc hope to give an answer to a question we’ve all been asking — why would you allow your children to hang out solo with a grown ass man?

Regardless of MJ’s molestation accusations and the new documentary, Leaving Neverland the Jackson family are still standing by his side. A recent statement read:

“Michael Jackson is our brother and son. We are furious that the media, who without a shred of proof or single piece of physical evidence, chose to believe the word of two admitted liars over the word of hundreds of families and friends around the world who spent time with Michael, many at Neverland, and experienced his legendary kindness and global generosity. We are proud of what Michael Jackson stands for.”

The statement continues on saying,

“People have always loved to go after Michael. He was an easy target because he was unique. But Michael was subjected to a thorough investigation which included a surprise raid of Neverland and other properties as well as a jury trial where Michael was found to be COMPLETELY INNOCENT. There has never been one piece of proof of anything. Yet the media is eager to believe these lies.”

We can only wonder if LaToya will stand by his side too. We know that she gave us tell-tale signs that Michael Jackson “our hero” had a dark $23 million secret back in 1993. Peep.

BBC ICECREAM

We’ve seen BBC collaborate with Medicom before. The BBC Starfield BE@RBRICK went hard AF and their BBC X NEIGHBORHOOD BE@RBRICK went even harder. It seems as if the streetwear brand can’t help but up the par because this release, unlike previous ones, includes a stature increase.

At 1000% the White Astronaut BE@RBRICK stands at 70cm high, features an astronaut body outline design, flexes transparent ears, and reps BBC logos on its head and back. This BE@RBRICK got the drip!

Truth for the wise, the Moon Man Collectible and White Astronaut BE@RBRICK 1000% might be a little too fly to play with but without a doubt, still, worth the cop.

The world’s largest LGBTQ art exhibition is coming to Asia this year

The Sunpride Foundation takes the lead on bettering universal culture by using contemporary art as a platform to combat sexual-orientation discrimination.

Commencing Nov. 23, 2019, and ending Mar. 1, 2020, the progressive charity will be hosting the largest exhibition of LGBTQ artworks at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).

Following its father show “Spectrosynthesis – Asian LGBTQ Issues and Art Now,” “Spectrosynthesis II – Exposure of Tolerance: LGBTQ in Southeast Asia” will have a larger focus on engaging the public in a cultural, political, and historical dialogue about the LGBTQ experience.

For sure “Spectrosynthesis II” will leave its mark in history. The project will include works from over 50 Asian LGBTQ artists and the BACC looks to host film screenings, performances, talks, forums, and symposiums.

Each artists’ works will come together as a collective whole to address the LGBTQ community’s desire for love, acceptance, and equality. Founder of the Sunpride Foundation Patrick Sun expressed to the Art Newspaper his conceptualization for the exhibition. He said,

“We looked at subthemes, such as personal experiences, human rights, and diversity advocacy… and focused on sharing the human experience of LGBTQ artists—the desire for love, acceptance, and to be treated as an equal.”

Photographs from the late Ren Hang’s archive will be included in the show. The young Chinese gay lensman took his life in 2017, at 29 and although we lost him as he was on the brink of his career, Hang’s works have left a major impression on a generation.

Sun showed is admiration for the late photographer, compared him to Lionel Wendt, and explained the important role of his works in the exhibition. He told the South China Morning Post,

“We will also be showing Wendt’s works, which were avant-garde at the time and remain influential even though camera technology has improved a lot. Ren was also doing something nobody had ever done before when he documented his generation in China. I believe his work will live on.”

Along with Hang’s photographs, perspectives from the rest of the continent and overseas-based Asians will be shown at “Spectrosynthesis II.”

India’s Sunil Gupta, Hong Kong’s Samson Young, Sri Lanka’s Mario Nithiyendran, Thailand’s Sornchai Phongsa, Vietnam’s Dinh Q. Lê, and other’s from all over Asia will be showcasing works at the exhibition.

Gupta who is HIV positive and an advocate for LGBTQ rights will showcase selective pieces from his “The New Pre-Raphaelites”  series.  The overall collection takes Pre-Raphaelite ideals from history and intertwines the portrayal of same-sex couples in India.

The collaboration with the BACC couldn’t have arrived at a better time as Bangkok plans to legalize same-sex civil partnership. For Sun, the Thai city is his third home and the artsy partnership will add to Bangkok’s reputation of openness to the LGBTQ community.

The world will progress forward with Spectrosynthesis II, the Sunpride Foundation, and the LGBTQ Asian art market as we all look toward the exhibition’s commencement later on this the year.

Without a doubt, this will set the tone for artists everywhere to have the courage to express themselves freely. Sun told the Art Newspaper,

“It’s uplifting to see that there is a greater inclination for artists to express themselves, as well as a more enthusiastic market that is ready to embrace these works. On a whole, we are delighted to see—and it is something we aim for at Sunpride Foundation—artists who are now more willing to express themselves freely and be true to themselves and just be who they are. It makes our work worthwhile.”

Don’t get too saucy, Natty Light is sparking $10M to help pay student loans

College is awesome, graduating college is even better but having to pay back student loans sucks. Life is supposed to get easier after spending serious cheddar on education not more stressful.

So, to take the pressure off, Natty Light will be dishing out some serious dough over the next decade – $10 million to be exact. In an effort to combat the serious issue of graduates with no guap  Natural Light is bringing back their College Debt Relief Program in 2019.

Investing in your education shouldn’t halt you from chasing your dreams. It should allow you to progress. Still, that is not the case. In 2018, Student Loan Hero researched and found that the average student loan debt for Class of 2017 graduates was $39,400, up six percent from the previous year.

In addition to the six percent raise, Americans owe over $1.48 trillion in student loan debt, spread out among about 44 million borrowers. That’s about $620 billion more than the total U.S. credit card debt.

Want to know another fun fact? The average monthly student loan payment is at $351 for borrowers between the ages of 20 and 30. That’s a trash bill for a younging to have to pay monthly, especially if you’re trying to get out of your parent’s basement and start your life.

This is the reason why Natty Light has decided to come back with an even stronger commitment to the students carrying the burden of college loans. To commence the decade of giving back, this year 70 individuals will have a chance for a slice of the $1,000,000 pot. Peep how to enter HERE.

Daniel Blake, Senior Director of Value Brands, Anheuser-Busch couldn’t be more hype about the pledge. He said,

“Last year, the College Debt Relief Program had a major impact on the Natty community, both financially and emotionally. But, student debt in America continues to rise, so we’re coming back with an even stronger commitment that will make an impact well beyond 2019. We’re making a pledge to give back $10,000,000 over the next decade to help out even more deserving individuals and shine a brighter light on the issue of college debt.”

Pushing their initiative even further Natural Light will also be airing a 60-second Super Bowl spot in five cities with the some of the highest student loan debt in America. Keep an eye out for the winners of last year’s College Debt Relief Program. Natural Light will be highlighting their video submissions and inspiration for going to college.

On Super Bowl Sunday, expect more than just a commercial from the progressive beer brand. In partnership with Cash App, Natural Light will be paying out $53,000 to 151 lucky fans via the mobile money transfer platform. Do the math, that’s $351 equaling the average monthly student loan payment.

Starting on Jan. 22 and ending on Feb. 3, to have your next college loan payment covered by Natty Light, anyone over the age of 21 can share their SB party plans on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.  For a shot at the $351, fans only need to add #NattySB, #Sweepstakes and “$Cashtag” to their post to qualify. Peep the rules here.

Blake spoke on teaming up with Cash App for Superbowl 53 to deliver instant debt relief to college students and graduates in need of assistance. He said,

“Teaming up with Cash App is the ideal way to deliver instant debt relief to even more of our fans while also having a little bit of fun along the way. It’s our way to give back even more and drum up some extra excitement for our fans on game day.”

May the sauce be with you.

What’s streaming beef? Hulu drops Fyre Fest doc days before Netflix

It’s Fyre Fraud (Hulu) versus Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened (Netflix).

In the epic streaming content battle, Hulu has one-upped Netflix and released their own Fyre Festival documentary. What’s the most savage? Hulu dropped it at the same time the review embargo for the Netflix doc was lifted.

Which one sounds like the hottest documentation of the biggest failure of all time? Hulu’s Fyre Fraud does have one over on the Netflix documentary and that is an exclusive interview with the Fyre Festival fraudster himself, Billy McFarland.

Deeming it a “true crime comedy,” Hulu puts the Fyre Festival on blast. Besides the exclusive interview with McFarland, who has been convicted of fraud and sentenced to six years in prison, the doc examines the stories of ticket-holders and whistleblowers as well.

In a statement, Fyre Fraud directors Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason spoke on including McFarland and how the con-artist got ahead in the dark age of FOMO and digital influencers. They said,

“McFarland’s staggering ambition metastasized in a petri dish of late-stage capitalism, corporate greed, and predatory branding, all weaponized by our fear of missing out. Our aim was to set the stage for a strange journey into the moral abyss of our digital age, going beyond the meme to show an ecosystem of enablers, driven by profit and willing to look the other way, for their own gain.”

Hulu’s Fyre Fraud (Hulu)

https://youtu.be/ljkaq_he-BU

Although Hulu beat Netflix to the drop, Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, which premieres on Jan. 18, is said to have kept a tighter focus and has juicer details surrounding the fraudulent festival.

Described as “a first-hand look into the disastrous crash of Fyre as told by the organizers themselves, Netflix might’ve dived deeper than the Hulu doc.

It honed in on the Fyre Festival’s origins as a promotional event for a talent booking app, questioned the festival’s organizers, and discovered the true victims weren’t rich kids who could afford to go but the local Bahamian employees that were never paid.

Even though there is no interview with McFarland, in Netflix’s Fyre doc, curious viewers will truly see how this venture unraveled and became the extraordinary criminal event it did.

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened (Netflix)

Lowkey, according to an interview with the Ringer, Fyre director Chris Smith said  McFarland claimed to have been offered $250,000 by Hulu. Continuing his fraudulent legacy the con-artist pitched $125,000 exclusive deal with Netflix. Smith declined.

Even after McFarland dropped the price to $100,000, the Fyre director couldn’t do it after spending time with people whose lives were negatively impacted by their experience at the Fyre festival. “It felt particularly wrong to us for him to be benefiting,” said Smith.

Smith told the Ringer,

“It was a difficult decision but we had to walk away for that reason. So then he came back and asked if we would do it for $100,000 in cash. And we still said this wasn’t something that was going to work for us.”

Co-director of Fyre Fraud Jenner Furst denied that they gave McFarland anything close to the amount of $250,000 and admitted that the production paid McFarland for licensed behind-the-scenes footage and consent to an eight-hour interview. Furst told the Ringer,

“I can’t tell you the amount but what I can tell you is that if you printed [$250,000], that would be a lie. That was not the amount. It was less than that. I don’t know why Chris [Smith] is quoting him that way. We both made a film about the same person. We know the person is a compulsive liar.”

Hustling 50 Cent GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Regardless of content streaming beef, documentary drop dates or guap received by a con-artist for an exclusive, the most important benefactors are the viewers and what they think.

We know the numbers will reveal who really documented the Fyre Festival best.

LA artist Meg Zany is the renegade inspiring with creative courage

The courage to chase your dreams isn’t manifested in a specific type of human being. “Courage has no gender,” and if allowed, its able to blossom in everyone. Its survival only depends on whether your soul accepts it.

Sometimes it can be a certain event or boredom of cowardice that sparks the feeling. Regardless of whatever happened, we are all able to tap into that emotional resource at some point in our lives.

For street artist Meg Zany, it took time to accept the courage she needed to pursue a creative career and, for her, changing the world by empowering other people was worth giving up her cozy 9 to 5.

Like most of us, the LA-based visionary thought the only way to make “hard cash” was by slaving away at a desk in corporate America although her roots stem from a creative foundation.

After eight years of corporate recruiting, she finally said, “fuck it, life is too short,” swam upstream, and decided that it was time to be who she was truly destined to become — a beacon of artistic inspiration for everyone around the world.

With a spray can in hand, a couple of mobile stencils, and some money in her savings,  Zany’s creative career truly began after she took her craft to the streets. It didn’t come easy and Zany has “worked her ass off,” to get to where she is today. Thus far, her work has made it onto the walls of buildings across America and into European galleries across the pond. She told us,

“I dissolved my company and went into it wholeheartedly. The biggest part of this was that I was doing it for me… I wanted to empower people to do what they want. I feel like I’m going to change the world through empowering other people, putting people on blast that are already changing the world, and people that are creating new social norms.”

Zany celebrates a special kind of hero and through her aesthetic, she hopes to encourage everyone to grab America’s major social issues by the balls. Proving it, the renegade creative recently spraypainted the slogan “Courage has no Gender” around the head of Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

The Associate Justice of the US Supreme court is a badass and if you are unaware of Ginsberg’s work she is well-known for the trail she’s blazed for females and the LGBTQ community in America.

Ginsberg isn’t the only powerful woman Zany has used in her beautification campaign. The “Courage has no Gender” slogan was first inspired by another powerful human, Amelia Earhart.

These icons that have shifted the social norms are important incorporations into Zany’s artistic works not only because they have been an inspiration to her but also because they represent the universal message of courage. Zany explained,

“We need to celebrate these people that are doing these things. It’s not to be taken lightheartedly. People that are out there just killing it should be embraced.”

Beyond paying homage to America’s modern heroes, the LA-based street artist has mantras dedicated to empowerment like “Females with Male Privilege” juxtaposed next to a woman ready for an artistic war. Her character, ready to take on the world, wears combat boots, a gas mask, and a dress.

For most onlookers, it’s easy to figure out why Zany might’ve painted the character. The piece does represent the struggles women face on the daily like the gender wage gap, the disgusting male gaze, and constant objectification.

Additionally, it represents a final embrace of equality and all humans having the same starting point. Zany reflected on the times she was a corporate American, discussed the issue of women not being taken seriously, and ranted about the unfairness of white privilege. She said,

“The percentage of CEOs, female to male, is gross. As women are dipping into the corporate world I hope those numbers start to change soon. It needs to be embraced and women need to be taken seriously. I think that instead of having white privilege people should have the same jumping off point. Hey, we’re all humans doing this human thing.”

As we look to embrace 2019 and all of the issues that have carried over from the previous year the renegade creative looks to tackle an additional problem at hand. Using her art she has paired up with TOMS to end gun violence together with the people of America.

Although Zany is aware of the concrete history behind the Second Amendment, she believes in the need for universal and mental background checks before anyone is able to carry a firearm legally.

For sure she is helping “shake the boundaries” around the Second Amendment along with TOMS and the artists involved.

Thus far, she’s spread the #EndGunViolenceTogether message and has hit up walls in San Antonio, LA, Brussels, and Paris. There’s a long way to go as TOMS plans to have 500+ pieces tagged all around the globe.

It’s obvious that the main goal for Zany is to spread a message of positivity and diversity. For the youth who are looking to take the same path and inspire the world with their creativity, the radical visionary said,

“Do what you love and do it for you. Have no fear when you’re seeking to succeed.”

Can this tin can fly? Elon Musk shows off Starship Hopper prototype

Recently, Space X alien Elon Musk took to Twitter to reveal the “Hopper” starship test flight rocket prototype and, to be honest, it looks type fragile. Still, Musk hopes that his intergalactic tin can will succeed in its suborbital test launch in the near future.

The image he posted of the Starship prototype shows a wrinkled, shiny, and metal rocket. Lowkey, it will remind you of something you probably would’ve “cheffed up” for a middle school science fair project. The only difference is that it stands at a 120 feet tall (Obvi, not the only difference).

Could Musk have been schmacked while building this spaceship? We all know he was caught burning it down with Joe Rogan on his podcast. Reassuring us on Twitter, in a thread, Musk said,

“This is for suborbital VTOL tests. Orbital version is taller, has thicker skins (won’t wrinkle) & a smoothly curving nose section.”

Beyond some unknowing critics stating that the spaceship is “Reynolds Wrap approved,” fellow experts within the tech space have claimed that the space mobile is straight up gorgy.

Still, could Musk be geeing it? Five days before posting the unrendered image of the prototype he finessed the world with a rendered image of what SpaceX’s Mars-colonizing vehicle was actually supposed to look like.

Can we rely on the Tesla CEO to deliver? Like SpaceX’s Grasshopper, the Starship Hopper will take off and look to hover 5km above the ground before being brought back down to land.

Those tests proved quite successful and there is no doubt that the starship’s suborbital flights will have the same result. After all, Musk is the Einstein of our generation.

There is a lot in store for humanity if the tests for the stainless steel refuelable starship go as planned. Musk promises that the sleeker orbital version will be ready by June 2019 and that SpaceX’s first mission to Mars will launch in 2022.

We out?

The jux: How fraudsters are forging Black art for big racks

African-American artists are getting played hard body karate. Their works are being forged by fraudsters and there is nothing that can really be done to combat the market of fakes due to fear of litigation, a lack of funds, and limited expertise.

The problem is a direct result of the demand for African-American art to be exhibited and sold in museums. In 2018 there was an obvious market shift. At Sotheby’s art auctions alone, African-American art brought in millions of dollars.

Some works quadrupled in price. A quartet of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s pieces raked in $41 million. Another piece by Kerry James Marshall sold for $21 million — it was originally acquired for $25,000.

Proving this notion even further, Henry Taylor’s “I’ll Put a Spell on You” (2004) work sold for $800,000, quadrupling its $200,000 estimate, the piece would set a world record for Taylor. Still, for forgers, this is the ultimate jux.

Aubrey Graham Drake GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

According to a recent article released by The Art Newspaper, New York-based gallerist Michael Rosenfeld and champion for the works of African-American Modernists is aware of the rise in fake artworks.

Just over the past few weeks, Rosenfeld has come across forged works of Alma Thomas, Beauford Delaney, Charles White, Romare Bearden, and Bob Thompson. He told The Art Newspaper how messed up this is due to the reason many of these artists’ works were overlooked during their lifetimes. Rosenfeld said,

“It’s a whole generation: you could go from A to Z through the list, from Charles Alston to Charles White. I am seeing fakes attributed to all of them. You simply can’t go back to the source anymore, and there is only a handful of people who worked first-hand with a lot of these artists while they were alive… Forgers know they can capitalize on that.”

Real talk, there might not be any solution because of the overlook and lack of people who worked first hand with the African-American artists’ works that are being forged. Simply put, there are not enough experts and knowledge of the works is limited.

Even for Black artists that have foundations and estates protecting their legacy, there aren’t enough funds to take on a case. Bridget Moore of New York’s DC Moore Gallery, which represents African-American artists told The Art Newspaper, “Foundations just aren’t doing this work anymore; they can’t afford to.”

Fuck, so what’s the solution? Keep a file of fakes on hand, suggested Moore.

Jean Michel Basquiat Artist GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Still, there has to be another wave, or nah. A court case back in 2011 proved just how long a forger can get away with flipping fake pieces. William and Beryl Toye pleaded guilty to conspiring with a New Orleans-based dealer for nearly half a century.

The jux? They sold dozens of works painted by Toye fraudulently and signed as Clementine Hunter, an African-American artist who died in 1988. A shame that the case itself took three years to conduct and conclude even though Clementine was a well-known painter.

FBI special agent Randy Deaton told The Art Newspaper why it was so difficult to catch the thieves. “She was well known, but there wasn’t an authoritative archive of her career,” he said.

What really got the Louisiana forgers bagged was the massive number of forged works attributed to Toye and the presence of cat hairs on some of the artworks. Cat hairs!

Sick.

Bored Cat GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

As we look to 2019 expect the forging market of African American art to grow.

Rosenfeld who first noticed the rise of fakes 20 to 30 years ago told The Art Newspaper that the situation is “increasingly epidemic” and the only way to not get g’d is by common sense. He said,

“If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.”

Let Idris Elba’s iconic ‘Du-Rag Wisdom’ guide you to a successful 2019

The du-rag — any man who possesses one with the right mindset can inspire many as the powers it holds are mighty. Besides somehow creating a pattern of waves in your hair that can make you seasick, the du-rag, once tied into place, can give you unprecedented amounts of wisdom.

If King Solomon had an IG back in biblical times he would record himself with one on as he came up with the illest proverbs. Perhaps this was Nostradamus’ secret to how he predicted the future or how Aristotle philosophized about formal logic.

Regardless, whoever has the opportunity to tie on a silk du-rag is a truth seeker and a wisdom finder. The same can be said for Idris Elba, a true master of du-rag wisdom. Recently, the king of all artistic trades has taken to social media, with du-rag on, to share his insight on daily life.

From the few lessons he has preached, many have been inspired. Here are four takeaways from the wavy wise man himself, Idris “Du-rag” Elba:

1. Always strategize to take the higher ground even if your ego takes a battering

Du-Rag thoughts. 👊🏾👊🏾😎❤️

A post shared by Idris Elba (@idriselba) on

When our egos are pushed it’s important that we all take a deep breath before we burn bridges or fuck up a check. Elba knows this and suggests that we think about our actions subsequently.

It is more royal to control our anger and not let our patience run thin because those who anger you control you. No one who is dreaming of conquering anything allows themselves to lose their cool.

Truth be told, in any setting, you’ll look like an absolute muppet if you let someone get the upper hand over your emotions.

2. It’s your birthright to chase your dreams

True.

Elba advises that we stay away from people who tell us that we are crowding too many lanes. If you want to be a jockey and spin clay — go ahead, mate.

If you want to be an accountant and a skydiver — go ahead, mate. If you aspire to be James Bond and spin the illest records at a nightclub — go ahead, mate!

Life is too short for us to adhere to people who don’t have the confidence to try out new ventures. As Elba said, “I encourage you to stay away from people like that or at least challenge them. Do your thing, don’t get pigeonholed into a box.”

3.  Be good to yourself, we live in a world that’s thankless

Love yourself.

Time and time again we forget to do that as we help everyone around us. We forget to nurture ourselves. Reward you for being you.

Whether it is five minutes alone, buying some fly ish, or an experience you’ve been dying to enjoy, it’s important to always thank yourself first. Elba reminds us that we owe it to ourselves and “to the heart that beats in your chest,” a pat on the back.

4. Start evolving ahead of time

To all of you who still haven’t committed to their new year’s resolution already here’s why. You’ve pushed off your evolution for a whole year only to start the new one the same way.

Yes, a new year does mean a new beginning for the world, but you can’t wait to age or better your life with the world. You can only grow if you set yourself up to evolve into a better person.

Like an athlete, you have to train yourself for change. An athlete doesn’t wait for game day to up his performance, that athlete trains over a year or a couple of months in order to evolve to the wanted level.

Gradually implement the change until it permanently becomes a part of your routine and when game day arrives you’ll be ready to crush it.
