Can nootropics enhance your chances at online casinos?

While performance-enhancing and the recreational drug culture is nothing new, you may have heard of a recently-trending class of drugs called “nootropics.”

Sometimes called a “smart drug,” these over-the-counter and prescription supplements are touted to boost brain performance, cognition, and memory skills.

College students cramming for exams, dementia patients, and active professionals hoping for a promotion might see great benefits in the possibilities here.

There is, however, a lot of conflicting information surrounding these drugs. So, what are they and how do they work? And, most importantly, can they really help with focus and cognitive enhancement?

What are nootropics?

The word “nootropic” is derived from two Greek words. “Nous,” which means mind, and “tropein,” which means to bend or turn.

They are currently defined as a substance that enhances cognition and memory and facilitates learning.

The term nootropic originally referred to synthetic substances that were purported to enhance mental abilities. But the name is now being used in a broader sense to apply to anything that supports cognitive function – including herbs and vitamins in dietary supplements.

A brief history of nootropics

Despite their recent upsurge in popularity, nootropics are nothing new.

The term was originally coined by a Romanian chemist and psychologist, Dr. Corneliu Giurgea. This was decades ago, when he was trying to synthesize a new and improved sleeping pill.

Instead, he accidentally invented piracetam, which he labelled a nootropic.

Dr. Giurgea’s guidelines for what should be considered a nootropic are far more specific than current trends tend to include. He specified 5 factors that make a nootropic:

  1. Enhance memory
  2. Improve behavior under adverse conditions
  3. Protect the brain from injury by physical or chemical means
  4. Improve tonic cortical/subcortical control mechanisms
  5. Demonstrate a low toxicity and side-effect profile

Many of the “nootropics” on the market today would not meet the criteria he laid out 40 years ago. This is mostly due to the associated side effects and lack of demonstrable efficacy.

Although their effects are more subtle, vitamins and supplements might actually be more likely candidates for the term “nootropic” than their prescription cousins, due to their lack of withdrawal symptoms and long-term dependency.

Types of nootropics

While caffeine gives you more access to several chemicals (neurotransmitters) in your brain such as acetylcholine, which helps with short-term memory and learning, most people looking for brain stimulation or cognitive enhancement are not simply sticking to coffee and tea.

There are a number of different types of substances that fall within the broad category of nootropics. Some have higher proven efficacy than others.

  • Caffeine: in coffee, tea, or pill form
  • Vitamins, Herbs, & Supplements: Bacopa Monnieri, Rhodiola Rosea, Panax Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, Nicotine
  • Amino Acids: L-Theanine, Creatine
  • Synthetic: Noopept, Piracetam, Phenotropil
  • Prescription “smart drugs”: Modafinil (Provigil), Amphetamines (Adderall), Methylphenidate (Ritalin), Memantine (Axura)

Traditionally, many of the vitamins and botanicals on this list boasted substantial cognitive benefits. However, a 2015 study showed that there was no compelling evidence in favor of cognitive enhancement by any of the vitamins or supplements in this category.

It may be a failure of US regulation of the supplement industry, allowing for ineffective formulas or containing low-doses of the active ingredients.

Modafinil is intended to sustain “wakefulness” in people with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, or shift work disorder, according to the FDA.

But when people without those conditions take it, it has been linked with improvements in alertness, energy, focus and decision-making.

A 2017 study found evidence that modafinil may enhance some aspects of brain connectivity, which could further explain these benefits.

Do nootropics work?

The way nootropics function in humans is by causing a shift in the brain’s levels of norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters. It’s not entirely clear that the effects are uniform in all users or that they are any more effective than a placebo.

While some young people have reported a significant “brain boost” with the use of Modafinil, there is no current consensus on what effects these shifts may have on a person’s health in the long run.

Also, some research on young people who use modafinil has found changes in brain plasticity, which could contribute to poor cognition down the road.

Because there are so many different supplements in the broader category of “nootropics,” it’s hard to give a definitive answer to the question of whether or not nootropics actually work.

The lack of widespread research on over-the-counter nootropics prohibits experts from confidently asserting the efficacy of these drugs improve thinking or brain function. Or that everyone can safely use them.

Not a magic pill

The idea that nootropics will magically make you smarter or increase your odds at a casino are sadly, unfounded.

Slots and online casino players, in general, won’t necessarily benefit from the use of nootropics. But they can increase their chances by utilizing free spin offers that require no real money risk to them.

There are, of course, serious side effects associated with nootropics. These include headaches, anxiety, insomnia, hallucinations, seizures, heart trouble, and even sudden death.

Therefore, nootropics should be taken with extreme care. While nootropics can (and do) provide many benefits for some users, anyone considering taking them should consult with a doctor before starting any new regimen.

Kim and Kanye’s relationship seen through photos: A timeline

“Why is Kim K trending?” my editor asks me. A simple enough question, and one that stands as a testament to the zeitgeist of our times. Kim K and Kanye’s relationship only adds to the intrigue around both stars, and with it seemingly coming to an end soon, we wanted to explore the photos of Kimye.

Both socialites make headlines whenever they pop out in public. Or whenever they say something out of pocket. And so the tour de force that accumulated when they became a couple was unlike anything we had ever seen.

A true power couple, Kim and Kanye’s relationship stood as a test for how two big celebrities in the limelight together and apart could coexist. And for whatever happens to Kimye, we will always look back at these photos on their time together with rose-colored glasses.

Kim and Kanye’s relationship before … it was a relationship (2010)

Kim and Kanye’s “relationship” began in 2003, when they reportedly met. However, their romantic relationship was not declared until 2012.

Thus, this photograph in 2010 is all the more intriguing. Kim and Kanye reportedly shared studio time together in Culver City, California. And before their romance was known, there was clearly respect and admiration for one another.

“He’s a musical genius, so I would be honored to work with Kanye. It’s all in fun. We’re just trying to have a good time.”

Kim and Kanye’s relationship is official (2012)

After Kim went on Today, Kimye showed out on the streets of NYC, and of course there were photos to capture them beaming.

Crazy to think that this was 9 years ago. In the time since, a lot has happened to Kimye, and to many, it’s impressive they’ve made it this far. Look at the smiles on their faces.

Still, there is no faking that emotion, and as we know, especially with Kanye.

The star-studded lovers brought a beautiful baby girl to the world in 2013. After naming her North West, the internet certainly had things to say.

Culture superstars, there was always going to be talk around Kim and Kanye’s relationship. And the birth of their first child is surely one of the most beautiful moments we can remember.

Kimye photos don’t get better than this (2014)

A couple years into their relationship, Kimye still looked like they were in the honeymoon phase, as evidenced by this photo.

For all the jokes that Kim and Kanye’s relationship gets, they truly looked like a symbiotic couple. Whatever happens to them, either together or separately, I know they both will look back on these photos fondly.

Just look at them.

In this iconic photo, Kim and Kanye tied the knot in an extravagant ceremony. Hey, only the best for the best, right?

This Kimye photo will stand the test of time for Kanye and Kim’s relationship. It was one of love, beauty, and bliss.

Kanye and Kim announce a second child (2015)

Kim and Kanye announced in 2015 that they were expecting a second baby together.

This child would be born as Saint, Kanye and Kim’s first son.

Chicago West is born (2018)

kimye photos

After more turbulent years in their relationship (Kim being robbed and Kanye leaving his concert to check on her, Kanye’s feud with Taylor Swift *cough cough famous*), Kim and Kanye welcomed their second daughter and third child, Chicago West.

The cute girls can be seen here with their mother, with love abound.

Kim and Kanye’s relationship hits a rough patch (2020)

kimye photos

We could have picked many more photos up to this point. Kim and Kanye welcomed their fourth child, Psalm in 2019. They made headlines (mostly in Kanye’s case) for the wrong reasons. And Kim impressed many people with her judicial reform efforts.

But it all comes down to this. The snag that could have changed it all for Kimye. Ye… why must you be so out of pocket?

Kanye declared for the 2020 presidential race and mentioned North in one of his rallies. He spoke much about the Kardashian family, and eventually, Kim broke her silence on his problematic discourse.

Kim and Kanye’s relationship will ultimately never be forgotten

Could this last photo have been the moment that Kim realized she needed to think differently about her marriage? It’s not our job to ponder this.

What we can do, is reflect upon these captivating photos, and be happy we were witness to all of them.

There are abundant photos in any relationship, and of course exponential ones with Kim and Kanye. Welcoming a new relationship and then children into the world has to be at the top of the list.

For all the controversy, Kim and Kanye were clearly dynamite together. Let the term “power couple” be set into a new bar after Kim and Kanye’s relationship was born.

El Chapo’s wife is arrested but we’re still here for her beautiful persona

The wife of famed drug lord El Chapo, Emma Coronel Aispuro, was apprehended at Dulles International Airport on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, according to the US Justice Department.

The former beauty queen from Mexico faces charges of conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, five kilograms or more of cocaine, 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, and 500 grams or more of methamphetamines for unlawful importation into the country.

Aispuro is known as El Chapo’s younger wife, his go-to, his accomplice. The wife. The mom. And the boss. But as always, of course, there is more to the woman behind the drug kingpin.

We wanted to focus on the photographers that have captured El Chapo’s wife in her true essence.

The photographers behind El Chapo’s wife

Antonio Carillo has photographed El Chapo’s wife at some of her most lavish events. Take this picture of Aispuro in a beautiful bridal gown for instance.

Antonio Carillo is a Mexican photographer capturing everything from intimate portraits to stunning landscapes.

But Carillo is not the only photographer lucky enough to have captured El Chapo’s wife in her true light. Todd Heisler of the New York Times and Redux Pictures got a firsthand look.

And for as enigmatic as Aispuro is, her pictures do not disappoint.

Emma Coronel Aispuro

There is an undeniable intrigue to the wife of a drug kingpin. How involved was she? What did she know and when did she learn it? And most of all, if she did know everything he’s done, how could she stay with him?

There is more to Coronel Aispuro than we know of course. And while much of the world must be fascinated as to her role as an accomplice, I am intrigued by the bigger picture. Who is Coronel the mother? Who is Coronel the wife?

Emma Coronel Aispuro was mysterious… until she wasn’t

Coronel Aispuro was seen mostly during her husband’s trial in 2018/2019. Of course, photos were taken of the now-31-year-old wife of El Chapo.

And it seems possible even, that she welcomed the opportunity in the limelight.

Not only was Emma Coronel Aispuro photographed during her husband’s highly-anticipated trial, but she has now been photographed before her very own.

As I mentioned before, the former beauty queen of Mexico was arrested on severe charges of drug trafficking. Consequently, she was photographed at the police station, and her mugshot was released.

Emma Coronel Aispuro

As if that wasn’t bad enough, El Chapo’s wife then got her own personal sketch treatment in court on Feb. 23, 2021.

As the world waits on the status of El Chapo and wife, the photographers lead the way

Photographers have a knack for capturing a moment in its pure essence. Also, they just know how to get a good flic when the time calls for it.

Times are looking grim for El Chapo and his shorty right now, and thus, it is essential that photographers be our guiding lights through the contentious months to come.

Without more information, I do not want to speculate on El Chapo’s wife’s morality, and I also do not want to cast aspersions on the woman. But then again, we see the things we want to see in life. Those of us who put blinders on, usually do so for a reason.

Ultimately, the courts will decide Emma Coronel Aispuro’s fate.

And due to the photographers ready to capture a glimpse of a moment at any time, we will see El Chapo’s wife as we are meant to: as the three-dimensional wife, mother, and boss that she is.

U.S. political photographer David Butow reacts to a new world in DC

The world in DC and in all U.S. politics has seen dramatic shifts in the last 18 months, and consequently, so has the photography of David Butow that has captured it all.

The violent storm on Capitol Hill. Streets shut down like an occupied war zone. An inauguration completely unlike any in memory, with fears of danger – both from the outside and in – twinging in the minds of Americans everywhere.

Make no mistake about it. We are living in unprecedented times, and the political structure of the U.S. is showing signs of weakness it never has before. U.S. political photographer David Butow (licensed through Redux Pictures) was at the 2021 inauguration for President Biden.

u.s. political photographer

We had the honor of speaking with the highly-respected photographer about capturing U.S. politics at this defining moment.

A conversation with David Butow, U.S. political photographer

KultureHub: From an atmospheric perspective, how did it feel being at this year’s inauguration, especially as compared with years’ past?

David Butow: I’d only been to one inauguration before which was Obama’s in 2008. At that time I was out on the Mall in the middle of the enormous crowd.

It felt very historic and upbeat. This year I was on site at the Capitol but because of COVID and what had happened just two weeks before, I witnessed almost no celebratory attitude. The sense was more of a ritual that had to be done but also a relief that even after the recent failures, the system held and the transition was taking place.

david butow

KH: You wrote that the comparisons of Washington to the Green Zone in Baghdad were apt. Can you elaborate on the similarities and what your visceral reaction was feeling those startling similarities so close to the foundation of U.S. democracy?

DB: The Green Zone was established in Baghdad because the political system had been broken intentionally by the U.S. invasion. The U.S. had set up a bureaucracy that they were trying to make work but was under threat by the political vacuum.

That’s why they needed all those barriers and blockades and fences. And in D.C., after January 6, you saw the same thing. Just miles of fences surrounding this area to try to maintain order after it had been broken. It felt ominous and lousy that the U.S. had fallen into such disfunction.

The secret to being a talented political photographer

KH: How do you approach your craft, both before, and in the moment? That is to say, how do you prepare (and then search) for the perfect image that can encapsulate an event/moment/circumstance when every instant is fleeting?

DB: That’s a pretty complicated question! I’ve been working on this since I was a teenager, and it never ends, but it’s a matter of trying to think clearly about what you are photographing, recognizing how you feel about it, and then being a keen observer, watching people, the flow of events and trying to capture that into a frame that contains some or all of the elements that you think are true to the moment.

It’s good to have some ideas worked out ahead of time and then see if those ideas play out, and also be open to surprises and nuance that you might not have expected. Most of the time I don’t get all those things right, but when it lines up and you nail it, it’s pretty exciting.

KH: What is it about “political” photography that is different from other areas (if you have experience in them, or through colleague’s personal accounts)? Do you have to prepare differently, or be quicker on your toes, etc.?

DB: I think the main difference is that there are access limitations. Often you can’t get into places that you’d like to because it’s and many of the events that you cover, you can’t move around or place yourself the way you’d like.

Sometimes this is for protocol and of course security is a big part of it, but photojournalists generally work pretty loose and aggressively so it can feel constraining. When political events happen in public spaces it’s much more interesting to work because you don’t have as many restrictions.

Also, the photo ops at the Capitol and White House are usually staged, so the scene is crafted for you and it’s challenging to extract something that seems spontaneous and revealing.

Searching for honesty and fairness through photography

KH: How do you maintain an objective disposition while you are on the clock?

DB: I don’t try to be objective because I think that’s impossible and not really human.

Some people have a misconception that journalists should strive for objectivity but I think what they should strive for is honesty and fairness and that starts with acknowledging and understanding your own personal and subjective views. I like to incorporate some of that into my work deliberately.

David Butow

KH: Are there any images of yours that you would say are your favorites?

DB: My favorites are always the pictures that I’ve taken most recently that I like and think it’s a new kind of picture for me, like I’ve surprised myself. Some of them hold up after time and some not. After a lot of time has passed I like to look back at the good stuff but my interest is always in moving forward and producing fresh work.

u.s. political photographer

KH: Is there any advice you may have for aspiring photographers, especially ones who wish to, in the future, cover political events?

DB: There’s a lot of stuff you can do without special access. This might be going to campaign rallies as part of the regular crowd or covering events on the street, and even for me that’s often the things that can be most fun and yield off-beat and cool photos.

david butow

U.S. politics are extremely polarizing right now, and David Butow has a front-row seat

David Butow added that, for the inauguration, he “carried more gear than I usually do because of the variety of lenses I thought I might need. I used a Leica M10-R with a 50mm 1.4, a SL2 and SL2-S with 24-70mm and 100-400mm lenses.”

Butow was adamant about the Leica camera enabling him to be able to shoot the inauguration in its purest light.

The political photographer who has both accomplished assignments domestically in the U.S., and abroad, had startling statements on the current state of U.S. politics.

But additionally, he was resolute in understanding what his job is. Photographers are the world’s eyes into some of the most significant circumstances occurring. Nothing in U.S. politics is more significant than inaugurations and literal insurrections.

For David Butow, a U.S. political photographer at the height of his powers, it’s about always striving for the next image. Always striving for honesty and fairness. And always striving to be better tomorrow. We commend him for his magnificent work, which can further be seen here.

Idols turn to rivals. Rivals return to being friends.

The media wanted to pit LeBron and Kobe against each other. The league would’ve loved nothing more than a finals pairing of the two up against one another. But alas, we never got one.

Whether on opposing teams, or as teammates on the Team USA squad, ‘Bron and Kobe always had respect for each other.

So it only made sense that ‘Bron would don one of Kobe’s jerseys before a big game. And, of course, in a playoffs that LeBron’s team would end up winning. ‘Bron strived for greatness by channeling his inner Mamba mentality.

Kobe Bryant has many protégés in the NBA, but perhaps are none are more documented than Kyrie Irving. The two truly had a unique relationship.

And it wasn’t focused solely on basketball. Kobe instilled wisdom of life on Kyrie, and no doubt those efforts were reciprocated.

Kyrie is as enigmatic a star as we have in sports, but when he puts on one of Kobe’s jerseys, we know the place he’s coming from. Because it’s what we all feel too: love, respect, admiration, and more.

Spike Lee has a flair for the dramatic outfit. But he never misses. And even as perhaps the most famous NY Knick fan of all time, he still made sure to show love to the late, great Kobe Bryant.

These celebrities rocking Kobe jerseys show how far his impact stretched

What are the similarities between all these people? Ok, they’re all celebrities rocking Kobe’s jerseys, but aside from that, they stretch across different industries, backgrounds, sexes, age groups, and more.

Kobe Bryant’s legacy will endure, not just because of his remarkable jerseys that will never go out of style. But because of the effect he had on so many different people, inside and outside of the game of basketball.

Rest in peace Kob’, we miss you.

The NYPD’s history of police violence captured through photos

The NYPD has a long and sordid history of police violence and brutality, and photos have been there along the way to capture it.

From the Harlem riots in the mid-20th century, to the protests over police brutality in the summer of 2020, to MLK Day 2021, photographers have captured the NYPD acting flagrantly out of bounds.

Do we expect accountability? Not necessarily yet, though we demand it. Do we expect the NYPD’s brutal tactics to subside? That remains to be seen when De Blasio leaves office.

What we do know, is that photography gives the city, and the world’s residents, a glimpse into how the NYPD really acts. The NYPD’s history of police violence cannot go unnoticed, and it does not, due to the work of diligent photographers.

We appreciate every photographer that risks their life in search of the perfect photo.

It made no sense other than to start with the most recent example of the NYPD’s police brutality. Peaceful protestors marched from the Barclays Center to City Hall, where they were confronted by the NYPD.

This photo shows the NYPD ready to take action, and take action they did. Except, the peaceful demonstration warranted no interference.

According to Jake Offenhartz of The Gothamist, protestors said they were corralled into the park, and then threatened with arrest if they refused to leave.

“I feel like the NYPD and any other police force, they were designed to do this. They were designed to capture Black people even on a holiday that celebrates Black icons, they don’t care. They don’t give a shit.”

Tameer Peak, a 25-year-old activist from Newark, said he was punched in the face by an officer while trying to film arrests. When he fell to the ground, Peak claimed another officer kicked him.

De Blasio may have said the NYPD will up its efforts to gain trust in NYC communities. But actions speak louder than words. This is unacceptable and extremely harrowing, and only due to photography and videos, do we know exactly what the NYPD has done.

2020 is remembered for the protests against police brutality, and it always will be. Of course, the protests didn’t solely take place in big cities in the U.S., but all across the world.

Still, NYC, seen by many as the capital of the world, was under the microscope. And photographers were there to capture the NYPD and its brutal tactics firsthand.

In the photo above, NYPD officers can be seen acting in excessive force against a Black man. Also noteworthy in the photograph, only one of the five NYPD officers in the foreground is wearing a mask.

Noncompliance isn’t going to halt the spread of the coronavirus. But for us New Yorkers, we saw a whole bevy of NYPD cops maskless during the summer of 2020.

The police brutality was on full display in the photography of the NYPD in 2020. And as MLK Day’s peaceful protests showed, there is no accountability for these officers and the department just yet.

A photographer captures an NYPD officer using pepper spray in a clear case of police brutality

Let us not forget that chemical weapons were once internationally outlawed. And now police officers are allowed to use pepper spray against the citizens they are sworn to protect. Via The Gothamist, this photo shows the victim complex many NYPD (and other departments) have.

Though the protestor is clear yards away, out of the shot, the officer sprays his pepper spray. During a pandemic. Against the citizens he is supposed to serve.

The photograph and instances of police brutality are so sickening it almost brings me to tears. But alas, the world knows about these instances of NYPD police brutality because of the delicate photography taken on the streets in 2020.

This photograph of the Harlem riots of 1964 shows the NYPD’s violence is not new

nypd police brutality

The Harlem riots of 1964 were harrowing and perilous. It all began in July when James Powell, a 15-year-old African American, was shot by NYPD Lieutenant Thomas Gilligan in front of Powell’s friends and about a dozen other witnesses.

In total, 4,000 New Yorkers participated in the riots before they were squashed.

There is something deeply sinister about the NYPD officer’s shooting of Powell. It was unwarranted, but the fact that he did it in broad daylight in front of so many people, meant he believed (and knew) he would face no consequences.

This also sounds deeply familiar to the capitol mob riots we witnessed last week, when white people, in some cases egged on by police, were so comfortable engaging in full-fledged treason, that they took pictures and live-streamed the entire ordeal. Two different Americas.

This photograph of the Harlem riots of 1964 shows how short we truly have come

Photography of the NYPD and its immoral actions can be hard to swallow. It is not just the sheer terror on the faces of the Black youths fleeing. It is also the nearly-imperceptible smile on the face of the NYPD officer about to engage in police brutality.

The riots were violent, sure, and the NYPD needed to respond forcefully. But rather than think about why the protestors were protesting, the officers just responded with terror against Black communities.

And it shames me to say, it seems not much has changed.

Photography of the NYPD and police brutality should never feel normal

Images of protestors in dire situations should never feel commonplace. These images should make us angry, and we should then use that anger to take action.

Still, the photographers who have captured the NYPD engaging in (let’s not sugar coat it) domestic terrorism, risk their lives for a perfect shot.

These photos show the world what is truly going on with the NYPD, as in these clearly-undoctored images, there is no disputing what is taking place.

Stay safe everyone, and also thank a photographer when you get a chance. They have seen much more than we will ever know.

Is LeBron really a hip hop historian? 3 times he butchered rap lyrics

LeBron James isn’t shy about whatever his current favorite songs are. LeBron is a dedicated fan of music (he calls himself a hip hop historian) and raps on camera whenever he digs the flow of a song. But there is another side to his musical endeavors that has come to light recently: LeBron is constantly butchering lyrics.

LeBron has A&R’d 2 Chainz’s fifth studio album, “Rap or Go to the League,” and he makes no secret his love for hip hop, old and new. LeBron is no spry youth anymore, with 40 closer to him than 30, and with age comes many things.

It means it’s harder for ‘Bron to stay in touch with new trends. It means when he tries, he often sounds just straight up like an old head.

Consequently, it means he has not a shred of embarrassment about that, because old heads never do. And it also means that when LeBron raps his favorite songs, he often absolutely butchers the lyrics.

Here are three examples of such times.

LeBron tries to rap 6lack, and fails… or does he?

Bruh. We know LeBron likes his music, but didn’t know it was to the point where he feels comfortable changing the lyrics!

“Yabadabadodobo old navy” is really one of the wildest lyrics one can imagine, but LeBron says it with supreme confidence.

Is that because he is one of the best athletes to ever walk the Earth? Or does it simply come down to the fact that he is approaching old head territory and just doesn’t care?

It’s probably both, but LeBron’s confidence in butchering the lyrics even caused 6lack to double-check.

LeBron tries to rap Pop Smoke

The topic of LeBron butchering the lyrics in his favorite songs does not stop there. Pop Smoke’s “For the Night” caused LeBron to slip up again, but this time in consecutive bars.

Pop Smoke’s cadence can be understood by most people. He’s no Young Thug, or Playboi Carti, or even Lil Baby for that matter, also on the song. Nonetheless, LeBron absolutely massacres the lyrics, but powers right through.

The “hey” and “uh” spoken with such confidence after he butchers the lyrics is not just hilarious, but also kind of impressive for LeBron.

We can all aspire to be so confident and perseverant in our tasks, however big or small. And when LeBron has new music and his favorite songs in front of him, we know we are going to get some good content out of it.

LeBron narrowly butchers Drake lyrics

LeBron is known to be good friends with Drake. Their relationship even stretches to the point where it seems LeBron acts as a bit of a big brother to Drake.

That still didn’t help LeBron from messing up his little brother’s lyrics though.

A simple mistake, and one that did not garner much attention, LeBron sings “coming home” instead of “going home.”

We’ve all made small mistakes like this before. And we wince or blush after. But not ‘Bron. He just powers though like mum’s the word.

But being so close to Drake, and hearing the exact same lyric before in the video, you’d think LeBron could get it right. But shit… he’s only the best or second best basketball player in all of recorded history. We’ll give him a pass.

A trip through LeBron’s favorite songs… Is he truly a hip hop historian?

LeBron may yet be a proven hip hop historian. He called himself as such on his own, The Shop, when Drake made a guest appearance. He also clearly knows his older rap.

He’s also obviously been name-dropped in a bevy of rap songs. In some he even served as the entire inspiration behind it. But that doesn’t mean it was a certainty he’d memorize the lyrics…

LeBron has even dabbled with his own rap before, but being it was his own creation, he did not absolutely butcher the lyrics like John Travolta at an Oscars.

LeBron is the content king. Not just for what he allows others to create about him with his sick highlights, but for what he shows his fans about his daily life.

The world wants to know what LeBron’s favorite songs are. They want to know what music LeBron likes, how he sounds rapping, and noticeably recently, how he can absolutely butcher lyrics.

But it is all, of course, in good fun. LeBron does seem to have some merit as a hip hop historian, and 2 Chainz’s word holds more weight than just about anyone else’s.

The content world got stronger when fans noticed LeBron butchering rap lyrics. We appreciate the kings and queens who pick up on these things, and we thank them for a laugh. As LeBron would say, Strive for Greatness everyone.

Who is Zhong Lin? The artist setting the tone for capturing portraits

“I want to rediscover what it means to start from nothing. No limits, no boundaries and no definition,” says Zhong Lin, the brilliant artist capturing portraits.

Zhong Lin pledged to take a portrait a day for 365 days. Calling it the “365 challenge,” at first she struggled maintaining focus and creative inspiration. Something we can all relate to at some point or another.

But Lin found focus and inspiration in spontaneity. And, shooting around Taiwan in South Asia, she was able to capture beautiful portraits of people without worrying as much about the coronavirus, as the country did a brilliant job mitigating its spread.

“Every visual starts from a blank page. I have learnt that there is no right or wrong in creativity and with this vision I invite you to take on this journey with me to title what is yet to be named.”

Zhong Lin

A portrait captured a day – the Zhong Lin way

Zhong Lin’s work has been celebrated in Vogue China, Harpers Bazaar China, and many more publications. She was born in Malaysia, though as mentioned before, traveled around the area of Taiwan capturing portraits in 2020.

Her project is still ongoing, as from the day she began, 365 days is not yet up. It also just so happened that, despite the immense difficulties the pandemic presented and the severe loss felt, it gave her a chance to look around and reflect.

“The breakout of COVID-19 happened to give me a pause and an opportunity to start this project.”

Zhong Lin

As of January 19, 2021, Lin has captured 272 portraits, the most recent being this delightfully enigmatic close-up.

The art of capturing portraits

Zhong Lin is a self-taught photographer, which should provide the most novice (and aspirational) creatives to follow, and teach themselves whatever they want to do.

Each of Lin’s images are distinctly unique, which of course is no simple feat with 272 completed (and more to come). They are dreamy, like they all exist within an ethereal plane.

And capturing portraits is not an easy feat itself either. One has to make their subject feel comfortable, giving instructions, but not too many as to bother.

Another important aspect of Lin’s work, and for all portrait photographers, is to let the creation come to them. Don’t force it.

“In the beginning, I just wanted to create beautiful things without boundaries, with different people and talents I meet at work or in life… and to share my visions with the world.”

Portrait photography in South Asia

When Lin found herself stuck in Taiwan at the onset of the pandemic, she started conceptualizing the project.

“Daily life here hasn’t been impacted much by the virus,” Zhong told CNN in an interview this past September.

“In Taiwan, people still get to walk outside, travel domestically and go about life normally, though with more caution.”

Zhong Lin

We follow Zhong Lin’s portraits with giddy anticipation. She, truly, is an inspiration to creatives seeking to start something new. Creatives looking for reinvigoration. Any of us looking for how to create in isolated times.

Asked where the inspiration for this project came from, Zhong Lin had something to say that we should all listen to.

“I’d been thinking it’d be so cool to work with these people creating something that’s free from limits; just create to create.”

Who are the creatives behind Saweetie’s ‘Best Friend’ music video?

Saweetie’s “Best Friend” music video went off for more than 18 million views over its debut weekend. Along with Doja Cat, Saweetie showed in the video why she is a superstar blossoming.

The director of the video Dave Meyers, director of photography Joshua Zucker-Pluda, and stylist Bryon Javar deserve an immense amount of credit for the end-product of this successful video.

Even with Saweetie’s prowess as a star, the video was not successful due to her name and skill alone. Massive work from Meyers, Zucker-Pluda, and Javar, in particular, was needed to propel this video to extreme heights.

So let’s show some love to the creatives behind Saweetie and Doja Cat’s “Best Friend” video. An effort like this star-studded music video is not ever accomplished by one person alone.

Director Dave Meyers

You may know Dave Meyers for his successful music videos in the past. There was Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” in 2017, “Havana” by Camila Cabello the next year, and Taylor Swift’s “Me!” in 2019.

Meyers also directed “I’m Real” by JLo, “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott, “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, and many other award-winning music videos.

And possibly his biggest hit yet? Directing Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” wide-ranging video.

Seemingly everything Myers takes under his belt winds up being successful. And now Myers has another hit under his belt. Saweetie and Doja Cat’s “Best Friend” music video is a hit for all the right reasons.

Camaraderie, women empowerment, and hot girls doing hot sh**. Dave Meyers made it happen, and like Saweetie, he doesn’t miss.

Director of Photography Joshua Zucker-Pluda

Joshua Zucker-Pluda is a cinematographer and photographer based in LA and NYC. His work has been included in the New York, Telluride, Venice, and Toronto International Film festivals and has been included in the esteemed Criterion collection.

Most recently, he worked with Meyers on Saweetie and Doja Cat’s “Best Friend” video. One can see the stunning visuals of the star duo’s video were delicately crafted and executed to perfection.

Zucker-Pluda, who goes by “hamletpowpowpow” on Instagram, captures beautiful landscape shots when he’s not helping create popping videos. The talented and multifaceted cinematographer/photographer is on our watch list for big city photographers going up in 2021.

Stylist Bryon Javar

Bryon Javar is a celebrity wardrobe and stylist, as well as a creative director himself.

The many outfits and styles Saweetie and Doja Cat rock in the “Best Friend” video are all possible because of Javar.

“I wanted it to feel like she was a chick in Harlem in 1994,” Javar, her stylist of three years, told BAZAAR.com in regards to Saweetie in “Best Friend.”

The nostalgic throwback to the ’90s look was important for Javar, especially going as far as to reach out to Dapper Dan and have him deck out Saweetie in Gucci head to toe.

Bryon Javar’s work on this soon-to-be-iconic music video cannot be overstated, as the fresh looks and vibrant colors that propel this music video to legendary status are the product of Javar’s vision.

Saweetie is setting a new standard in music

We tip our cap to the amazing trio (and others) who made Saweetie’s “Best Friend” music video so hot. Fun, uplifting content like this is so important during uncertain and problematic times.

Saweetie’s debut album is expected to drop this year, and it will be interesting to see if the three creatives who worked on “Best Friend” join her when it does.

We also acknowledge that star creatives behind the scenes need star artists in front of the camera to prosper. It is a mutually beneficial relationship, the type we all strive for in our creative endeavors.

Because once that perfect symbiotic note is reached, we are left with some of the greatest art we have ever seen.

Dave Meyers, Joshua Zucker-Pluda, and Bryon Javar all deserve a ton of credit for their superb work on Saweetie and Doja Cat’s “Best Friend.”

The creatives behind the scene getting recognition is what we like. And let’s hope they don’t stop creating anytime soon.
