5 Reasons why Friendsgiving is better than Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is such a special holiday — it’s origins are sort of problematic but it’s a good day to stuff yourself with food, watch football, and to be grateful too, I guess

And it’s also the time too see family. Although, I love my family to bits, I also dread seeing them.

It’s exhausting to act like the best version of myself to appease an auntie I only see once year. And the passive-aggressive comments about my weight, career, and relationship choices are just painful.

I also cannot deal with the stress of traveling back to my hometown, and sleeping on my twin-sized bed.

That’s why in the past few years, I’ve taken to celebrating Friendsgiving (it means Thanksgiving with friends) instead.

And I think you should give it a try too!

Friendsgiving Food.

Food is a great way to bring people together. For Friendsgiving, you don’t have to worry about cooking a lot because potluck can be an option.

You don’t have to do traditional Thanksgiving dishes either. Just cook or bring something you like!

No family drama.

Family drama is stressful. It can be hard to find ways to avoid it, and many people are forced into situations where they have no choice but to deal with family members’ issues.

Friendsgiving is a great way to avoid this kind of drama. You can focus on the people you love and care about, not what their parents want them to do or how they should act.

It’s also important not to feel like you have to conform too much when it comes down the holidays: there’s no pressure on anyone (including yourself) if someone else doesn’t want something specific during this time of year—you’re free from tradition!

Starting your own Friendsgiving traditions.

You can start your own Friendsgiving traditions. Make it a yearly event that you’ll always attend, even if it’s not at the same time of year or place as everyone else.

If you’re friends with more than one person, make it an annual holiday for all of them. If you want to do something special for just one friend group in particular, consider creating a special day where everyone gets together and does something together—and maybe even make some food or drinks!

You don’t have to travel anywhere.

Friendsgiving means staying at the comfort of your own home. You can just invite friends over or host a party at a local restaurant or bar.

Friendsgiving is a great way to connect with friends and make memories.

Friendsgiving is a great way to connect with friends and make memories. You can get together with old friends and make new ones, share your favorite traditions, or create new ones of your own.

So if you’re looking for a holiday that will bring people together in the spirit of giving, this is it!

Steve Lacy is having a TikTok problem with ‘Bad Habits’ on his tour

Fans were baffled after clips of American singer Steve Lacy’s odd behavior on tour made rounds on social media.

Many musicians attribute their success to their fans. Thus, they do the most they can to be on their good side.

Yet, Lacy has the tendency to snap and reprimand his audience. He has gone as far as to smash a fan’s camera on stage at his New Orleans show last October 24.

Hence, this begs the question, does he still enjoy performing in front of these crowds? Or has he already grown to hate his newfound fame?

Steve Lacy has been here for a while already

Although, Steve Lacy is hardly a newbie.

He gained recognition as the guitarist of the alternative R&B band the Internet. They have released several albums, even earning a Grammy nomination for the Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2015.

On the other hand, his solo career began in 2017 when he released his self-produced debut EP, Steve Lacy’s Demo

His talent in songwriting and production has led him to work with notable artists such as Frank Ocean, Tyler, the Creator, Solange Knowles, Chloe x Halle, and Kendrick Lamar.

Bad Habit

Four months after the release of his single, Bad Habit, Steve Lacy was thrust into the mainstream.

Bad Habit spent several weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and is the soundtrack to almost half a million TikToks. Following the success of this song, Steve Lacy sold out multiple shows across the United States.

However, the problem is that his audience only seems to know the viral hook for Bad Habit, leading to pretty short sing-a-longs.

His fans have also been shown to interrupt his sets and throw stuff on the stage.

Understandably, Steve Lacy has had it. The singer-songwriter told off a fan and has even walked out off stage after an awkward performance.

Was Steve Lacy justified in his actions? Sure. He has the right to get upset. However, he definitely could have handled some situations better.

In a now deleted Instagram post, Lacy reminds his fans to come to his shows with respect for themselves and others.

He wrote: “My shows been fun as hell! shoutout to the people not throwing disposable cameras at me and just coming to catch a vibe and connect. I had a really good time in NOLA last night. I hate that the beauty of the connection I have with so many people in the crowd gets lost when something negative happens.’

He continued: “I don’t believe I owe anyone an apology- maybe I could’ve reacted better? sure. always. I’m a student of life. but I’m a real person with real feelings and real reactions. I’m not a product or a robot.”

After all, you paid hundreds of dollars to see an artist perform, so why interrupt them? And at least try to learn other songs on the setlist.

If you’re going to be a menace, stay at home and just stream the song for god’s sake.

GRAMMY nominee

Steve Lacy has a lot of other great songs in his album, Gemini Rights, apart from Bad Habit.

Recently, he was nominated in multiple categories: Record of the Year Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Progressive R&B Album in the 65th GRAMMYs.

It’s exciting to see artists get recognition. But more importantly, they deserve to be treated like humans with feelings than mere content machines.

The incidents at Steve Lacy’s shows remind us to enjoy the music and the moment. And of course, to be mindful of our actions and boundaries the next time we see our favorite artists live.

Ryan Coogler and Ludwig Göransson might be the best duo in Hollywood

Writer-director, Ryan Coogler, and composer, Ludwig Göransson, have once again moved so many Black Panther fans across the globe.

The messages, themes, and music of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever came from the minds of Coogler and Göransson, who also worked on the first Black Panther movie.

However, Coogler and Göransson first discovered their synergy while working on Fruitvale Station (2013).

It won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the U.S. drama competition at the 2013 Sundance Festival.

In an interview, Ryan Coogler said that their familiarity with each other allowed the sound effects, the music, and the direction to co-exist seamlessly, making filmmaking a “fun and gratifying” process.

“Collaboration ends up being our secret weapon.”

– Ryan Coogler (2021)

They were roommates at USC Film School

The power duo met at the University of South California. Göransson was studying film scoring while Coogler was in the directing program.

The two were best friends, roommates, and frequent collaborators, with Göransson providing the scores to all of Coogler’s films.

Currently, the two storytellers have multiple recognitions to their names. Coogler is a recipient of four NAACP Image Awards, four Black Reel Awards, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

While Göransson is an Academy Award and two-time Emmy Award winner.

Writing and Directing Black Panther

In both Black Panther movies, Ryan Coogler strived to flesh out each character.

By giving them deep aspirations and ambitions, the audience connected better to both the heroes and villains of the two films.

Superhero movies often present black-and-white concepts. The American writer-director aims to challenge that notion, muddying the water between right and wrong depending on whose perspective you’re seeing.

Composing for Black Panther

On the other hand, Ludwig Göransson poured himself into doing in-depth research.

This was to truly ensure that the different cultures were thoroughly represented through music.

The Swedish composer traveled to four different continents and convened with over 40 artists, musical archaeologists, and other experts to create a unique sound and an immersive experience.

Wakanda Forever

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sold an estimated $330 million in tickets and set a November record in the United States and Canada.

This marks the highest total ever for a film opening in November, topping the $158.1 million for the 2013 film “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.“

Millie Bobby Brown wants to play Britney Spears, but does she agree?

Millie Bobby Brown has set her sights on the role of a lifetime. After starring in five seasons of Stranger Things and two Enola Holmes movies, she now wants to play the 2000’s icon Britney Spears

In a recent interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, she shared that her dream role would be to star in a documentary about the pop diva.

“I think her story, first of all, resonates with me, just growing up in the public eye, watching her videos, watching interviews of her when she was younger.”

– Millie Bobby Brown, The Drew Barrymore Show

Documentaries are for the dead

However, the “…Baby One More Time” singer did not react well to this statement.

In an Instagram Post, Britney seemingly responded to Millie’s interview, saying, “I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life. Dude, I’m not dead!”

Millie has not reacted to this post on social media as of posting this article.

Celebrity Documentaries

In recent years, there has been an influx of celebrity documentaries in memory of celebrities who are gone.

For example, Netflix released The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, a documentary about actress, Marilyn Monroe, who passed in 1962.

However, there are also documentaries for artists that are still well and alive.

Singer-songwriter Beyoncé has two: an autobiographical documentary in 2013, Life is But a Dream; and another in 2019 titled, Homecoming.

In 2020, the film Miss Americana, told Taylor Swift’s story. This year, Selena Gomez will also release her own documentary, My Mind and Me.

Britney Biopic

Social media users were also quick to comment on Britney’s post. Many defended Millie, and several also took to Twitter to justify Britney’s response.

Nonetheless, Britney’s story is important to tell. Especially in the age of social media where there are so many teens who are aspiring to make it in the industry. It can be the right wake-up call to better protect young creatives.

Although, with Britney’s whole life already being discussed 24/7 — from tabloids to social media — it’s quite understandable if she opts out of making a film too.

The irony of Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue and what it means for social media

There are two ways to look at Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter.

The first way is to think positively and believe that the tech mogul is going to make the bird app so much better. After improving this area of social media, he solves world hunger. Also, he takes us to Mars.

And the second way is to look at him like a cartoon villain taking over your own home and rearranging your furniture for no good reason. Also, you have to start paying rent.

Unfortunately, many Twitter users feel the latter.

Elon went through hoops to buy Twitter. Even taking out a loan to secure his $44 billion deal. But after everything, it seems like the Tesla CEO doesn’t know what to do next.

I can’t believe this app is free!

Bored Twitter GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Twitter is a goldmine of content. With so many people from different cultures and backgrounds coming together.

Users tweet anything from their deep innermost thoughts to funny brain farts to absolutely terrible hot takes.

Arguably, the site is working fine as is. The only major problem users have with it is that your feed refreshes when you see a good tweet. (An edit button wouldn’t hurt either TBH.)

Yet Elon decided to make a bunch of changes that no one asked for…

Blue Boot

Upon his acquisition, Elon fired three top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, and multiple employees which were deemed redundant.

Although, Elon confirmed that these layoffs were already decided before he purchased the site.

However, this mass firing has caused anxiety for both users and advertisers. Since the people Elon booted are the ones responsible for security, public policy, communications, and engineering.

Reportedly, Elon called to rehire these employees after they realized that their work and experience may be necessary to build the new features he envisioned.

Twitter Blue

Elon Musk announced new features such as a subscription-based verification system. Verified users will be able to post longer videos and have their content prioritized in replies, mentions, and searches.

It will cost $7.99 per month to have a blue badge next to your name. This applies to already verified users too.

Needless to say, not everyone was happy about the announcement.

Goodbye Twitter?

With these changes, many people are understandably anxious about the future of the app. The subscription-based verification system eliminates a lot of the things that made Twitter cool and fun to use.

Nonetheless, only time will tell if Twitter Blue will improve the app or not. So maybe don’t jump ship just yet!

Who is Rhuigi? How a Filipino immigrant took over the fashion industry

Rhuigi Villaseñor went from making fashion faux pas to running RHUDE, his very own fashion house, with many fans clamoring for his next collection.

At age 11, Rhuigi and his family moved from Manila to Los Angeles, where they stayed in a one-bedroom apartment.

Rhuigi was a fish out of water. He had to learn the language and everything else that came with living in America.

On his first day of school, he wore Skechers and a Spalding vest, which earned him a lot of teasing. But he persevered and arrived one day wearing Air Jordans.

“I looked at it like a game. And I play to win. For me to be one of the cool guys, I needed to understand what the style language was.”

– Rhuigi, Forbes Interview (2019)

Rhuigi had to hustle hard

Rhuigi’s father wanted him to be a doctor, but he was drawn to art and fashion. After graduating high school, he took it upon himself to pursue a career in that industry.

He took pattern-making classes with his mom, who was a tailor, guiding him.

Rhuigi also took an internship with Cal-Brit designer Shaun Samson, taking the bus from The Valley to downtown Los Angeles daily.

Rhuigi relied on his entrepreneurial skills to support himself, reselling signature finds from Goodwill.

Sometimes I’d find Versace or Marc Jacobs, and then I’d sell it. And the $7 that I spent would turn into $200. I couldn’t rely on my parents. I had to go get it.”

– Rhuigi, Forbes Interview (2019)

The T-Shirt That Started It All

The Manila-born designer founded his brand, RHUDE, in 2013. At first, the label did not see a lot of profit. However, he never doubted himself.

His efforts paid off when one of his designs catapulted him to fashion superstardom. This design was a cotton t-shirt printed with a black and white paisley bandana pattern, a nod to West Coast culture.

Initially, Rhuigi had no intention of selling the t-shirt. “I didn’t want anyone else to have my look,” he said.

But he eventually gave it to Kendrick Lamar, who wore black and red versions of the design to the BET Awards in 2012.

“It was beautiful,” he said. “It changed my life.”

The demand for his designs surged. And at the encouragement of his peers, Rhuigi made the bandana t-shirt available to the public. This move opened many doors for his career in fashion.

The RHUDE Awakening

In 2015, Rhuigi formally established RHUDE.

The name is a tribute to his grandfather who wanted all their names to start with “Rh”. The designer saw his craft as a means of providing for his family.

RHUDE, which has expanded from tees to a full line, is now one of the best men’s labels around.

Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, Offset, Future, and Bella Hadid are just some of the celebrities who have worn the brand.

Now, it’s also sold at dozens of the best retailers, such as Barneys, SSENSE, Patron of the New, 424, and Union.

“Family’s all set now,” he boasted in a recent interview with GQ. “The brand made $30 million in the last year.”

“Life is about earnership. If you feel that there are supernatural forces guiding life, then you’re not fully in control of yours. Everything is a choice, he says. There’s no fate controlling our destinies on this planet”.

– Rhuigi, GQ Interview (2022)

Ecdysis with Bally

For Rhuigi, hard work is essential.

The young designer further cemented his place in the fashion industry when he was appointed as the new creative director of Swiss luxury fashion house, Bally, in 2022.

Presented during the September 2022 Milan Fashion Week, Rhuigi’s debut collection for the 171-year-old brand, dubbed “Ecdysis,” redefines luxury European dressing through American eyes.

He credits his upbringing with providing a foundation and understanding of how to build each piece and the subsequent stories told with each collection.

In his exploration of the Bally archive, he took inspiration from the brand’s codes around art, graphic design, architecture and nature.

Rhuigi also shared that he’s learning from Bally on how to improve his own brand.

“I’m learning how to create a house that will last for a long time, how to scale up and make sure Rhude can weather the storms.”

– Rhuigi, GQ Interview (2022)

What is Rhuigi up to now?

Currently, he is also the creative strategist of the Meruelo Group, and is designing collections with brands such as Zara, Puma, Starter.

Rhuigi Villaseñor is showing the world that he’s got a lot more to offer.

With his earnership-mindset and determination, RHUDE is definitely set to become a household name.

Kanye plans ‘Yecosystems’ and the internet could care less

Following Donda Academy, Kanye West’s newly established Christian private school, the 45-year-old American rapper is now allegedly planning to build mini-cities called “Yecosystems” across the US.

According to various sources, plans for these cities have been in the works for years. These communities will include residential buildings and retail stores.

Kanye also filed a trademark for charitable fundraising, a public relations arm and a number of food products.

Kanye’s Anti-Semitism

However, news of these Yecosystems are almost insignificant compared to his recent online activities.

Kanye, now also known as Ye, exchanged anti-Semitic conspiracy theories with Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson over the past week.

He also posted anti-Semitic sentiments on his social media accounts and later threatened violence against Jews.

Paris Fashion Week

In the same month, Kanye also made headlines after wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt with American conservative, Candace Owens, during Paris Fashion Week.

The phrase has long served as a violent retort to the Black Lives Matter movement, used by white supremacists and hate groups, including the Ku Klux Klan.

In an interview with TMZ, The BLM movement condemned the rapper’s actions a day after his stunt.

The statement reads: “While some may see Kanye and Candace’s stunt as a distraction, we recognize that it harms thousands of families fighting for justice for their loved ones killed by state-sanctioned violence.”

However, Ye has yet to respond or explain his reasoning behind wearing the shirt.

Public outrage against Kanye

Kanye’s actions were definitely not met with understanding from people online. With many calling to de-platform the rapper.

The pressure on brands

Consequently, people on social media are pressuring his partner brands to make a stand against his statements.

As a result, Balenciaga cut ties with Kanye. With VOGUE, Creative Artists Agency, and Johnny Depp’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez, dropping him after.

Despite this, it seems like the rapper feels like he’s untouchable.

In a recent interview, he boasted that the brand Adidas wouldn’t do anything to harm their partnership.

The episode has since been deleted.

As of October 25, Adidas had ended its partnership with Ye with “immediate effect.”

Shares in the clothing brand fell as much as 8% after the announcement but have since pared their losses, according to a report by BBC News.

A spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “Adidas has finally joined other brands and agencies and cut ties with Ye (Kanye West). This would not have happened without the almost 175,000 who signed our petition and the celebrities and influencers on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world who helped promote it and amplified the message.”

Kanye’s Mental Health

Im The Best Kanye West GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Many have tried to blame Kanye’s behavior on his Bipolar Disorder.

But his recent stunts and statements serve to uphold extremely dangerous views, which cannot be excused.

What the rapper does not seem to understand is that his online actions have very real-life consequences.

His team, brands and social media platforms should do more to censor Kanye. Above all, he should also get the help he needs.

Target Black? TikToker starts wild rumor about Target Balenciaga store

Social media is blowing up about Target’s “latest venture” with Balenciaga and other luxury brands.

The department store chain is said to open a premium concept store called Target Black. The news was first shared in a TikTok by creator Dan Bravo, who is allegedly working on a commercial for the brand.

The premium shop is already being built in NYC under the Highline and will have exclusive product lines from Balenciaga and Supreme.

Bravo also adds that the store will feature an organic and locally sourced food section, along with a Starbucks Reserve Roastery on-premises.

While the TikTok appears to show an under-construction storefront featuring a black Target sign, the facade is actually Target’s corporate office, located on Manhattan’s west side.

Meaning, there is no Target Black on the way.

Tarjé, yay or nay?

Target was also quick to shut down the rumors of their premium shop. However, neither Balenciaga nor Supreme has commented on the video.

On the other hand, social media users had a lot to say about Target Black. Some already suspected that it was a joke, but it didn’t stop them from debating on whether or not it was a good idea anyway.

On Twitter, users argued that the store was in a nonideal location and that no one would bother to ‘travel all out there for deals they can get at Rack.’

Another user reminds us about the impracticality of Target Black due to high inflation and the possibility of an economic recession.

While one said they found the idea fun and believed that it could be a good move for Target since it already has a cult following.

TikTok is a different story. Several users were going off about how Target Black is elitist and irrationally annoying to them.

Of course, Target Black isn’t real. Yet. 👀

Who knows? Maybe in a couple of months, we might actually get a surprise Target X Balenciaga collab. We just have to wait and see!
